Shaun of the Dead – Best Zombie Movie EVAR?!

Shaun of the Dead

On Friday, Shaun is in a rut. At 29, he’s coasted through life–and still hasn’t gotten very far, usually winding up at the local pub, the Winchester. His roommate Ed looks up to him–when he can take his eyes off the TV, that is. Liz is re-evaluating their relationship, particularly after Shaun fails to do something special for their anniversary on Saturday. That day, there are train delays, people fainting in the streets, TV news reporters on unexplained calamities

I’ve been wanting to watch this movie for a while as I’ve heard it’s right up my street..

1) It’s about Zombies (Must be a good thing)
2) It’s British (Must be FANTASTIC)
3) It’s a Romantic Zombie Comedy (About the only way I can bear Romantic Comedy – WITH ZOMBIES IN IT!)

So let’s call it a ro-zom-com!

It scored a VERY good 7.9 on IMDB which with a few more good votes could push it into the top 250.

I was expecting it to be a decent film, I was expecting it to be so good! It was a really good film, funny, touching, a little scary at times, beautifully written.

Especially if you are familiar with UK culture, and movies. It makes digs at several other films and references a few (Reservoir Dogs, 28 Days Later etc.). A lot of it is social commentary, especially targetting Londoners, anyone familiar with the place will find it hilarious.

It’s about a real loser who works in a small electrical store, now this guy is a proper loser, not like the American ‘loser movies‘ where the guy is actually really fucking successful. This guy has a boring life, a weird family, an annoying best friend/flatmate and no prospects.

The Winchester is everything!

I’d say it’s not for everyone, there’s a lot of swearing and a fair bit of violence and it makes a LOT of movie references. Especially horror movie references. There are a lot of UK actors that make at least cameo appearances too if you are familiar with Little Britain (Matt Lucas) or The Office (Martin Freeman).

Now I want to see From Dusk till Shaun!

This is a very funny, witty, clever film, sadly I think it will go over many people’s heads, but I think at SOME level it can be enjoyed by everyone.

I give it an excellent 9/10.

One of the funniest and most original movies I’ve seen for quite a long time.

My Obligatory 2005 Summary – With Pictures! – Part I

Well 2005 has been a pretty interesting year, it’s had it’s up and downs as usual, 2004 was a pretty crazy year as you can read here.

JanuaryArchives

January was a pretty quiet month, I got my own hosting and setup some reseller packages for local users/bloggers at Malaysia Blogs.

My PC totally stopped working, was fried so had to virtually rebuild it, got back to the world of modern computing this month.

100 Things We Didn’t Know Last Year!

Pretty cool article came on the BBC yesterday titled 100 things we didn’t know this time last year.

Each week the Magazine picks out snippets from the news, and compiles them into 10 Things We Didn’t Know This Time Last Week. Here’s an end of year almanac.

Some pretty interesting things like:

2. Mohammed is now one of the 20 most popular names for boys born in England and Wales.

Immigration problem?

11. One in 10 Europeans is allegedly conceived in an Ikea bed.

Somehow I believe this.

40. An average Briton will spend £1,537,380 during his or her lifetime, a survey from insurer Prudential suggests.

So everyone is actually a millionaire!

78. One in 18 people has a third nipple.

Scary…

91. Croydon has more CCTV cameras than New York.

I used to live there!

Look out for the obligatory 2005 summary post soon!

Happy new year.

So here we are, New Look for 2006! Happy New Year

New look, new WordPress 2.0, goodbye bBlog, you served me well..

Couldn’t handle the spam any more though sorry. It was progressing pretty well, and I loved the Smarty templates, but well it wasn’t going fast enough and as many hacks as I could put in, it was just too simplistic to get into shape.

Happy new year, let me know what you think of the new features/new banner/new layout.

I’m pretty proud of what I’ve done with it actually, took me about 48 hours solid, hardly slept..

Oh well, happy new year to me, it was starting to bug me. And people were complaining they were bored of the banner aswell, so two birds with one stone?

I’ve been experimenting with WordPress for a while, and well 2.0 just came out so it was ideal opportunity to get dug in at the deep end.

Will probably blog about my experiences, had plenty of headaches getting it all set-up. Quite a lot of plugins that didn’t work at all, a lot that just plain messed up, some I hacked to get to work.

The import from bBlog to WordPress itself was a bit of a nightmare and took 3-4 hours of hacking to get it back in shape.

To all the guessers, I think Lionel got it pretty much right.

  • I am NOT getting married.
  • I am NOT getting engaged.
  • I am NOT commiting to anything.

Nothing that serious really, just a shift to wordpress, few new features, new banner, less clutter, more blog!

HAPPY NEW YEAR FROM SHAOLINTIGER.COM

Yes this is first proper post from wordpress, in the new st.com, best BLOG EVAR!
