Memories of Minehead

The last few pics from my trip to Minehead back in August last year, the weather was pretty overcast so I went for Black and White conversion and a couple of HDR thrown in for good measure.

Seeing steam trains always reminds me of my childhood and the series Thomas the Tank Engine., it’s a lovely oldskool feeling to see a train still powered by a coal fire and steam.

btw what if ur stalkers can’t add 3 and 10?…

pik: Yah all the colour shots are varying strength of HDR. If they can’t add the number…dunno loh LOL. I might remove it anyway s most of the spam seems to come from trackbacks. Just experimenting at the moment.

i love the first picture! You should try selling it off to GNER as some promo pics:)

    where IS minehead located?

What HDR software did you use? The third last and last pics are good. The colour train shot is obviously HDR.

looking at the tags were these pics taken using a d70s? i thought it got stolen or something and you got yourself a D200, no?

  6. ShaolinTiger February 6, 2007 at 5:06 pm #

sourrain: Thanks 🙂 Minehead is kinda past Bristol down towards the coast.

ChuWei: I always use Photomatix as I don’t much like the effect Photoshop gives to HDR pics, and Photomatix has a much greater level of control over the tone mapping. These were taken in August last year before my D70s was stolen, I do have a D200 now.

Whoa, I like the Happy Train Man, Stationary and Lonely (especially since the water glows).

    Nice series.
I think the pic “Neglected” would look better with bottom part cropped off. Just my 2 cents worth.

The Train Man was lovely but I really liked the water fountain! So quiant.

sourrain: Can just press back and then copy your comment to clipboard and refresh to get new numbers?

Albert Ng: Thanks man, I made you whoa eh…hope to do so again soon 😉 Was trying out my slightly better b&w conversion skills.

knytan: Do you mean Lonely? The one with the boat? I like it how it is, wouldn’t have the same effect without the void space IMHO.

Paul: Thanks! I love the train man too, glad to see some people have jobs they enjoy.

Yup the boat, sorry wrong label.

I like the train [The “Lord Nelson” for anyone interested in what its name is].

I also really like the Lonely Boat and the Blue Promenade. They’d make great posters or framed photos for a home or office. Both very peaceful. 🙂

My Great Grandfather worked on the trains in Southern Britian [he lived about where the A303 is on the map]. 🙂

knytan: Ah ok, no probs 🙂

Dabido (Teflon): Thanks, the old steam trains really are fascinating things. Very timeless. Feel free to grab the high res from my Flickr and print them out 🙂

Very nice pics man! Steam engines were still in use in India when I was a kid. Amazing for nostalgia… though I remember one used to be covered in a layer of soot (no double glazing on Indian trains back then) by the time you reached where you had to reach.
