Best Keyboard in the World EVAR – Optimus

Man this is really awesome, like TOTALLY OMGBBQWTF AWESOME.

Optimus LED Keyboard

Seriously, every geeks dream, the LED powered keyboard.

It’s SO slim aswell.

Optimus Keyboard

Basically the keys are powered by LED so they can display anything, they will display whatever that key is currently set to do, for example the Enter key:

Enter Key

Customised Number Pad?

Customised Number Pad

Or even a special key layout for Quake!

Quake Keyboard

Or PhotoShop:

It’s penned for launch February 1st, will have to see how much it costs.

Probably a small fortune.

I don’t usually post msg on your blog but this is too cool to ignore.

But I don’t think it will fare well as a gaming keyboard. Prolly for designers, writers or something else but not gaming. Gamers are too brutal.

But DotA hotkeys on this keyboard would look good.

damn, it’s good. too good to be true!

    OMG OMG OMG.

I think I just let loose a barrage of my seeds, unintentionally, from the sheer excitement of looking at the above pictures.

They keyboard is just daaaaaaaaaamn sexy.

    That’s kewl!
    Must … Buy … new … keyboard …

  8. diggnationreader January 8, 2006 at 9:49 pm #

well, some websites say that it’ll cost the same as a ‘mid ranged cellphone’ so….. i’d say 600ringgit – 1k ringgit easy

  9. roshan January 8, 2006 at 11:03 pm #

hey mr.shao lin, it’s LCD, not LED

  10. ShaolinTiger January 8, 2006 at 11:22 pm #

twenty: Yah imagine that with the DOTA spell icons, OMG that’d be too awesome. Gamers aren’t that brutal though, come on 😉

Wan Zafran: Yah man totally know what you mean, I somehow experienced the same thing.

diggnationreader: Hmm that’s expensive, but worth it I guess if you’re an ultimate gadget freak. I guess it’ll go down sometime.

roshan: Is it? I read it as LED, might be LCD though, although I think LCD is essentially a bunch of small colour capable LED’s anyway.

  15. louyau-mike January 9, 2006 at 5:16 am #

    Damn! That freaking cool!

  16. roshan January 9, 2006 at 7:08 am #

led is the small kind of bulb which produces light. lcd is liquid crystal display.that is used to make the keyboard look so amasing 🙂 led will only be able to light up the keyboard letters, not change it.

    good day mr.tiger

  17. smashpOp January 9, 2006 at 9:10 am #

farah: Hahahaha spare cash? No such thing! Hmm sounds really nife, when is it open? Certain days hours? or pretty much all the time? Will definately check it out and blog about it if it’s good!

  21. Bryan January 10, 2006 at 7:51 pm #

When I blogged about it back in July, 05, they were still in the initial stage of production. So fast they are going to launch in February, 06. Very cool keyboard indeed. 🙂

  22. jimmy January 11, 2006 at 10:29 pm #

i read about this month or two ago but it hasn’t reached Malaysian shores yet.

anyway, i think aesthetically, it’s one of the best EVAR but nobody really gives two flying fxcks about the keyboard other than fellow geeks.

  23. ShaolinTiger January 12, 2006 at 8:35 am #

Bryan: Yah they got it out pretty fast, I think because so many people showed interest they pushed it into production.

jimmy: I think so too, especially when it’s going to cost a small fortune. And it’s not February 1st yet, so actually it hasn’t reached anyones shores 🙂

Not LED, but OLED. The same screen technology that is used on many clamshell Samsung’s mobile (external screen). OLED (or OEL)is the future in regards for small mobile devices due to its lower power consumption (no need for backlight).

Check the image for a comparison between an OLED and lCD display:

    Cheers,

I’ve seen this kb several months ago and after the initial thought “wow that’s cool” I started to realize there’s really almost no use for changing the pictures on keys for games. How many times have you been in a heated deathmatch and looked down to see where jump was? That’s what I thought! What it all comes down to is paying a couple hundred or more for a neato keyboard that probably feels like crap.

The only time you might need to remember keys is if you buy a new game that has many unique keys, in which case who is going to take the time to config each graphic on their keyboard before they play the game?

If you are a hardcore spreadsheet or word processing user I could see adding some extra info to some of the keys you don’t use very often to remember shortcuts, but in the end I think this kb is just a doomed novelty.

Also if they’re targeting gamers, why the extra keypad and other useless keys? Any hardcore gamer by now should realize the further your mouse from your left hand the more uncomfortable you are and the worse your performance. If you want a real gaming keyboard get something like the Deck 82 key: https://www.deckkeyboards.com/boards.php
