The 100 rudest place names in the UK

I don’t know if any other countries suffer from this phenomenom, but well in UK there are a lot of street names with double entendres or plain out rude meanings (mostly due to evolution of language and changing meanings of words).

Like there is a place in UK called Scunthorpe, which isn’t actually rude, but it gets banned by a lot of basic word filters due to a word in the midst of it.

I saw an interesting article funnily enough on https://www.thisisscunthorpe.co.uk

Spital-in-the-street is usually the butt of schoolboy jokes, but the oddly named village has found fame in the pages of a new book.

Rude Britain is a 100-long list of the country’s most double entendre-riddled towns, villages and streets. North Lincolnshire’s entry slipped in at number 69, sandwiched between Snatchup in Hertfordshire, and Shingay cum Wendy, Buckinghamshire.

I’ve actually seen quite a few of these myself, as I’ve been to Minge Lane, it’s not far from my house and Menlove Avenue is one of the main roads in Liverpool (At least it’s not Boylove Avenue eh?).

You might not get some of them, as a lot are English slang swear words like Minge, Twat Bell-end and Muff.

If you aren’t sure of some of the meanings, you can ask me or just look it up in Urban Dictionary[/url].

I’m surprised Shepards Bush wasn’t in there somewhere. I’ll have to look up the meaning of Prince Albert Court … have no idea why the English would find that funny! (Unless it is a reference to a part of Queen Victoria or something!)

I read them to my mother (who is English) who tried to explain that they aren’t rude! Pppptttthhhh!

Hope my brother Jeffrey knows about his passage though!

There’s a book out on the list plus pictures of the signs. Somemore, there’s a list of ‘Rudest Place Names in Europe’ published in FHM once. There’s one ‘F**kville’ or something.

There’s a town (village?) in Austria named Fucking. It’s true. I heard tourists go there and steal their signs so they have to wire it or something.

    Where are you from?

    Fucking!

    😀

Not to forget that cosy little Japanese restaurant called Fukmi.

Do you reckon the twins in that Austin Powers movie (I think it was Goldmember) live in Austria? Fook Mi & Fook Yu, from F**king, Austria. LOL

I thought “Middlesex” sound pretty rude all by itself.

I can imagine someone introducing themselves,
“I was born in Mudchute, then moved to Crotch Crescent but now i’m doing sales in Slag Lane.”

What about Batang Benar..or batang Berjuntai??

  11. tigerjoe September 1, 2005 at 11:48 pm #

LOL if that were the case, would Essex be rude when pronounced with an emphasis on the first syllable?

  12. Yuen Li September 4, 2005 at 2:13 pm #

Don’t forget Maidenhead, Kent. Ok, that’s not strictly rude, but it’s not a subject many people would discuss, I don’t think…

  13. stupe September 8, 2005 at 9:48 pm #

    Malaysia got Batang Berjuntai….

I’m surprised that Ticklecock Bridge in Castleford Yorks is not in the list, in view of the publicity when the council tried to “clean up” the name

There’s a Slutshole Lane near Attleborough, Norfolk. I pulled over once to look at a map, glanced to my right and there is was, in all it’s glory…
