Movie Review - I Am Legend - Jumpy

I Am Legend

After the outbreak of a lethal virus in 2009, in 2012 U.S. Army virologist Lieutenant Colonel Robert Neville is left as the last healthy human along with his trusty dog in New York City and possibly the entire world. For three years, Neville is trying to discover a cure for this disease and to find out if any other people might have also survived. But most of humanity and transforms the rest into monsters, perhaps mankind's last, best hope, Neville is driven by only one remaining mission: to find a way to reverse the effects of the virus using his own immune blood.

I somehow had a feeling this movie wasn't good, I had no idea what it was about at all - and still had no idea when I watched it. I thought it was a love story or something, I was quite surprised when it got exciting and made me jump!

The jump factor was surely enhanced by the fact I completely wasn't expecting anything scary! I don't know why I thought it was bad either - it got pretty good marks on IMDB. It's actually based on a book, a 1954 Science Fiction novel by Richard Matheson of the same name "I Am Legend". This is the third time it's been made into a movie.

In some ways it reminded me of Tom Hanks Castaway - Will Smith really carried this movie and he showed what a power house actor he really is, he and his dog Sam. It's hard to find conflict when you are alone on screen and this is a big movie with a big void Will had to fill.

He did the job admirably! He really brings Robert Neville alive.

I am Legend - Will Smith

This is a big budget movie, but only one main actor - the support cast are not big stars. There are plenty of extras tho and special effects, the soundtrack is good and the effects well executed.

It's a gripping movie that keeps you interested all the way through. A lot more could have happened though, more character development, more about Neville coping with his solidarity and his insanity creeping up.

It is scary, it's convincing and it's gripping - if you haven't seen it, it's definitely worth a watch!

You can check out the alternate ending here, it's very cheesy tho - I'm glad they stuck with the one in the actual movie. The fans say however the alternate is more realistic and sticks to the book.

I give it a good solid 7.5/10.

Shaun of the Dead - Best Zombie Movie EVAR?!

Shaun of the Dead

On Friday, Shaun is in a rut. At 29, he's coasted through life--and still hasn't gotten very far, usually winding up at the local pub, the Winchester. His roommate Ed looks up to him--when he can take his eyes off the TV, that is. Liz is re-evaluating their relationship, particularly after Shaun fails to do something special for their anniversary on Saturday. That day, there are train delays, people fainting in the streets, TV news reporters on unexplained calamities

I've been wanting to watch this movie for a while as I've heard it's right up my street..

1) It's about Zombies (Must be a good thing)
2) It's British (Must be FANTASTIC)
3) It's a Romantic Zombie Comedy (About the only way I can bear Romantic Comedy - WITH ZOMBIES IN IT!)

So let's call it a ro-zom-com!

It scored a VERY good 7.9 on IMDB which with a few more good votes could push it into the top 250.

I was expecting it to be a decent film, I was expecting it to be so good! It was a really good film, funny, touching, a little scary at times, beautifully written.

Especially if you are familiar with UK culture, and movies. It makes digs at several other films and references a few (Reservoir Dogs, 28 Days Later etc.). A lot of it is social commentary, especially targetting Londoners, anyone familiar with the place will find it hilarious.

It's about a real loser who works in a small electrical store, now this guy is a proper loser, not like the American 'loser movies' where the guy is actually really fucking successful. This guy has a boring life, a weird family, an annoying best friend/flatmate and no prospects.

The Winchester is everything!

I'd say it's not for everyone, there's a lot of swearing and a fair bit of violence and it makes a LOT of movie references. Especially horror movie references. There are a lot of UK actors that make at least cameo appearances too if you are familiar with Little Britain (Matt Lucas) or The Office (Martin Freeman).

Now I want to see From Dusk till Shaun!

This is a very funny, witty, clever film, sadly I think it will go over many people's heads, but I think at SOME level it can be enjoyed by everyone.

I give it an excellent 9/10.

One of the funniest and most original movies I've seen for quite a long time.
