Deerland Park - Lanchang - Pahang

So after we visited Kuala Gandah Elephant Sanctuary, we headed to this really cool place nearby called Deerland. We thought it was just a deer park but it actually had all kinds of animals inside and was really interesting..

It was more interesting than the Elephant Sanctuary, which was the main purpose of our trip!

So the first thing we did when we went in, was feed the deer of course!

Kuala Gandah Elephant Sanctuary - Pahang

So after a morning at Chamang Falls we headed off to our main destination, Kuala Gandah Elephant Sanctuary!

It's about 20km or so from Chamang and we were to get there by 1pm to make sure we got the activity passes so we could play with the elephants..unfortunately as it was a public holiday the passes were finished - so we didn't get to play!

There was a huge ass elephant skull though.

There were nice murals and paintings around the place.

I’m Back from Sabah - Meet Jackie

Will post some pictures soon, gotta get all the clothes to the laundry and tidy up the house a bit, load up all the photos (lucky my PSD has Firewire!) and a few other things I need to do.

Just a taster - Meet Jackie.

Meet Jackie

Jackie is a fairly domesticated Orang-Utan in Sabah near to Mount Kinabalu. She comes out of the forest every day to eat fruits from the hands of a few selected people.

She was released into the wild 18 years ago along with 6 other juvenile Orang-Utans - they all disappeared into the thick forest but Jackie comes back without fail.

She loves human attention and beetlenut!

For those that know photography, this was taken at 48 mm focal length - so you can imagine how close I was.

Will update as soon as I can. Enjoy the holiday today.

Taman Burung Kuala Lumpur AKA KL Bird Park

Located in the serene and scenic Lake Gardens, close to the Orchid Garden and the Tun Abdul Razak Memorial, the Bird Park is one of the largest covered bird park in the world, sprawling 8 acres of verdant valley terrain. Here, for the first time in Malaysia, bird lovers can have a field day watching more than 3000 birds perching and winging about freely-in a totally natural and beautifully landscaped enviroment.

It's around the area of Jalan Parlimen, if you can reach Jalan Parlimen there's good signage all the way to the bird park. The Butterfly Park is nearby too.

It's open daily from 9am until 6.30pm - it's not that cheap at around RM30 per person, but it's a great place to practice wild life photography.

KL Bird Park

The first thing you'll see when you get there is monkeys, not birds.

You might remember this one and it's swinging nipples.

Cheeky Monkey looks like he's about to steal something.

Macro Outing to FRIM with Shutter Asia!

We organised an outing to FRIM on Saturday morning over at Shutter Asia (Details here).

The Forest Research Institute Malaysia is a large park just North of the city towards Selayang, it's around 10-15 minutes drive from the end of the LDP after the Penchala Toll.

Welcome to the Forest Research Institute Malaysia, one of the leading institutions in tropical forestry research, both within the country and abroad. Founded by British colonial forest scientist in 1929, the former Forest Research Institute with Dr F.W. Foxworthy as its first chief research officer, became a statutory body governed by the Malaysia Forestry Research and Development Board under the Ministry of Primary Industries in 1985 and then in 2004, FRIM became a statutory body governed under Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment.

The 600-ha site in Kepong located 16 km northwest of Kuala Lumpur, is surrounded by the Bukit Lagong Forest Reserve. The Institute, which has been awarded the MS ISO 9001: 2000 accreditation, is headed by Director-General Dato’ Dr. Abdul Razak Mohd. Ali.

We went there to mainly shoot macro and enjoy the countryside!

I came back with some shots I'm really happy with! This series is focused on Macro, I'll show some environmental shots later.
