The Smirnoff Two Great Flavours One Launch at The Sanctuary (Curve)

It's been a fair while since I went out and had a reasonable amount of alchohol, quite some time indeed.

I'm sure you remember my blog before my photography escapades was full of clubbing, greasy food, alcohol and hedonistic behaviour...aww perhaps I'm getting old?

I was invited for this party by some Smirnoff people, I just had to post something before the party to get things warmed up.

I managed to post something after the party too, just before passing out.

Anyway it was a pretty good party, there was a decent crowd.

Sanctuary Crowd

Joey G was the MC - isn't he always nowdays? I seem to see him at every event I go to.

The finger food was pretty good - especially the sotong (yummy).

Laundry Bar @ The Curve - The Launch - April 17th

So last night...it was Monday night and I was at the opening of the Laundry Bar at The Curve in Mutiara Damansara, just next to Fitness first, it was a dual opening Italianies and a retro urban bar called "Laundry".

Which is indeed an odd name, as many people walking past proclaimed "Why this Dobi so big one?"

So basically it was loads of booze provided by Laundry and loads of food provided by Italianies? A sure winner indeed.

Got there around 9.30pm starving to death hoping there was some food, bumped into TV Smith and Midnite Lily, also the writer of Kaki Cucuk Langit a very good blog (Yeah go read it now, now now) and another fella who's birthday is the same day as KinkyBlueFairy, muteaudio.

Laundry Bar Peeps

Also apparently I saw KinkyPugKevin and he saw me...but er well we didn't talk.

It's a nice looking place, I label it retro urban, unfaced cement walls, shiny aluminiumish things hanging around and a nice wooden/plush seating area at the back.

Laundry Bar

It was of course very packed, with the free beer and food, Malaysians all come out the woodwork!

The bar staff did a commendable job of keeping everyones thirst quenched.

Laundry Barman

The beer did just keep coming...and coming and coming!

Laundr Bar Beer

Unfortunately the first few rounds of food were provided with no cutlery...so we kind of had to make do..

Finger Food

And as you can see, it isn't really your typical finger food.

This creamy cheesy tomatoey chicken thing was REALLY FREAKING GOOD, sinful, but good.

Chicken Thing

Yes food, more food and more food, there was some awesome meatball things in a creamy sauce with some tomatoe garnish and a big slice of mushroom in the middle, those were nice.

Here we have some prawn pasta, lasagna and the creamy cheesy chicken thing. All good apart from the Lasagna, which was too salty..a little slip on the seasoning there.

Laundry Food

The Tiramisu was really good, definately the best one I've had in Malaysia so far, it actually tasted like Tiramisu should and had the requisite alchohol in it :)

Laundry Tiramisu

Then as we were about to burst...along came the most enourmous peice of strawberry cheescake, which was also fantastic.

Laundry Cheescake

Yeah they just kept bringing more food after that, with some kind of caesar salad with calamari on top.

Calamari Caesar Salad

Me and Kim

I did appreciate the effort they put into the decor, gave the place a nice feel.

Pillow

I've got purple shiny disco balls!

Shiny Disco Balls

There was a really cool live band playing some old skool retro ragga/reggae kind of tunes, nice music, great singers.

After that, to my absolute surprise the DJ busted open the set with some hardcore drum and bass, I was like ZOMG WTF LOLPLS I LOVE DnB.

After that came some Funky House and some UK represented 2 step Garage.

Laundry Bar

Laundry bar, it was teh fun.

I shall go again (especially because it's like 5 minutes from my place and they should give me a lifetime of free booze for writing such nice things).

Laundry Bar does have a rarely updated blog here.

March is the Month of GOODNESS, Detox, Gym and Diet

So....

Since I quit smoking (btw check this quit smoking site out), was in Brunei for 5 weeks paying fat tax, then my mom was here and it was Chinese new year...too many people have been saying I've put on weight.

Cambodia was good excercise and got me back in shape...round is a shape right?!

So I've decided (seen as though some of my trousers are a little tight now)....it's probably time to lose a bit of weight.

I'm around 114kg now, which is not ideal, I'd prefer to be around 105-110kg, weight is not much of an issue though..tone is!

I don't really have much fat, apart from this weird thing resembling a michelin tyre around my waist.

I don't like it, no not at all.

So this month my vow has been for the whole of March..

  1. Eat Less (Smaller portions, less carbo)
  2. Try to avoid oily/greasy/high cholesterol food (I have some meals of just veges, and usually now just half a bowl of rice)
  3. No Fizzy drinks (One of my worst downfallings, I have a sweet tooth)
  4. Cut down on alchohol (I tend to drink something alchoholic at least once a day)
  5. Go to the Gym EVERY day
  6. Drink more water
  7. Try to avoid anything very unnatural (Lot's of colouring/flavouring/sweetening)

So for example instead of teh o ais limau I have limau kosong ais, instead of Roti Canai for breakfast I have Roti Bakar..

Instead of a massive meal for dinner, I just have a bowl of Tom Yam soup, or a bihun noodle soup, or McD Bubur (Chicken Porridge) etc.

It's been quite difficult, but I've gotten into the flow of excercising at least.

I've been 8 out of 9 days so far in March, missed one day as I feel asleep one night after work and awoke the next morning...the exercise getting to me I think.

I've gotten a little fitter already though, I noticed yesterday on the cross training machine, I did the same program, on a higher level with a lower average heartrate, which is nice!

My program has been something like 15 minutes warm up on x-trainer (level 9), 45 minutes of resistance/free weights training (bicepts, tricepts, lats, stomach, chest). Then 25 minutes on the bike, level 7.

Seems to be going ok so far, slowly increasing the amount of weight on the resistance machines and the levels on the cardio machines.

Hopefully by the end of the month there will be a noticeable difference.

Wish me luck!

Uncle Lim’s Laksa at Ikano Power Center - Mutiara Damansara

So I was in Ikano Power Center - Mutiara Damansara, to pay the bills (it's the nearest functional post office to me I think) and I didn't have much time.

Instead of my normals haunts (A&W, Authentic Hiroshima Okonomi Yaki & Gyoza or Manhattan Fish Market) I headed to Uncle Lim's, which I always see, and which is always busy.

They only serve 4 main dishes, which if I recall correctly are Uncle Lim's Laksa, Asam Laksa, Nasi Lemak and Chicken Porridge (Gai Juk) and a few other things like Roti Bakar and Otak Otak.

Uncle Lim's - Ikano Power Center

I opted for Uncle Lim's Laksa...I don't know the difference between this and the Asam Laksa.

Uncle Lim's Laksa

But I have to say their presentation is excellent, so much better than their culinary skills.

I had a Soyabean-Cincau (Michael Jackson), in a rather small glass..

Soyabean-Cincau

And mixed up my noodles.

Uncle Lim's Laksa

Uncle Lim's Laksa appears to made with spaghetti, rather than regular noodles, which is kind of interesting...there wasn't much else inside, a few cockles I think, no big juicy prawns..And it cost $7.90 and the drink $2.50.

This is a place that's pretty much self service and only serves 4 dishes, surely that keeps the price down?

It is a big portion, but well I didn't finish it because it wasn't very good..it was salty, a little overbearing and didn't have much worth eating inside except the spaghetti.

Perhaps I'll go back and try the Asam Laksa and the Porridge, but I doubt it..I can get both at other places for $2-3, not $8.

Uncle Lim's

Uncle Lim's Homegrown Crap.

Yeah I didn't enjoy it.
