My Surprise 30th Birthday Party

As you probably know by now it was my 30th birthday last Friday on the 21st March 2008. You can see my pressies here.

On Friday itself I thought I was just going to have a quiet dinner and hide away from the fact I am getting old..I thought something was up, but I wasn't sure what it was, where it was..or quite how many people were involved!

My mom let slip 'party' a couple of times, but I thought she was just talking generally..or being crazy haha.

I was led to Izzi Uptown and greeted by an overwhelming number of people (no I wasn't about to cry!). Apparently the original venue was Izzi KL, but due to the F1 parties most of the roads in KL were closed.

There was quite a number of people there when I arrived.

Faggots

Lots of friends I haven't seen for quite a while.

And my bro with the same birthday Terence G.

An Evening with Dionne Warwick in Shangri-La, Kuala Lumpur - Malaysia for Live and Loud 2007

Ok so here we are, the full write-up! When I mentioned Dionne Warwick at the Shangri-La - Kuala Lumpur there wasn't much response, so sadly I can assume not many Malaysians know WHO Dionne Warwick is?

Well read this for a start: Dionne Warwick at Wiki

She's pretty much the second best female vocalist of all time after only Aretha Franklin and also note that out of the Billboard Hot 100 top pop singles from 1955-1999 she's #20 out of 200 artists.

Anyway, that aside - on to the event! We arrived about 7+ for the 'cocktail' reception - yeah with no cocktails only sirap ais or water. And this dinner is RM1000 per head, for the cheap seats! Apparently seats in the middle were about 3k per head and I hate to think how much the front row of tables cost.

So what else to do while waiting, pose a bit la!

Heineken “Life Below Zero” Beer Launch at Velvet Underground - Zouk

Ah finally! A party I really enjoyed. So the story is, I was invited to a product launch by Heineken who are launching new "sub-zero" bottled beer in Malaysia, their sub-zero draft has already been installed in 30 locations through Malaysia since September this year and now they are launching new Sub-zero beer chillers for bottled beer.

I was a bit annoyed as it was 7pm on a Monday night in the middle of KL...during the season when it rains a lot during early evening - just great!

I got there about 7.45pm and queued for some draft, good stuff. It really does taste better when it's extra cold - we were upstairs for a while at the bar whilst waiting for the launch to kick of downstairs in Velvet Underground.

So we headed down, there was ice everywhere, huge green blocks of ice filled with bottles of Heineken - good stuff!

Heineken on Ice

The place was fairly well packed.

Velvet Underground

Joey G was the emcee (as he always seems to be nowadays) and the thing kicked off with a video about how the beer is best served extra cold, then a delivery by the regional director for Heineken - sounded like an Aussie.

Royal Selangor Pewter Autumn Season Launch Party

Yah I'm typically late in posting this, due to changing PC and not processing the pictures all...and being a lazy bum etc etc.

Any way, a friend of ours invited us to the Autumn season launch party for Royal Selangor Pewter at their visitor center in Setapak.

So I thought why not, especially with the funky Turkish theme of the Autumn stuff, belly dancers and so on it should be interesting!

You can check out the Autumn Release here.

And well I have to say it rocked, it's one the best organised 'corporate' type parties I've been too with a seamless integration of the new ranges of pewter into the environment.

It was also sponsored by Bombay Sapphire, so plenty of booze! Nice funky disco house music too, beautifully lit, good food and nice atmosphere. It was a surprisingly enjoyable night out for a launch!

Party

The food was great with kebabs, houmous and various Turkish type desserts.

Turkish Desserts

And freshly sliced roast lamb with gravy....man that was good.

The Smirnoff Two Great Flavours One Launch at The Sanctuary (Curve)

It's been a fair while since I went out and had a reasonable amount of alchohol, quite some time indeed.

I'm sure you remember my blog before my photography escapades was full of clubbing, greasy food, alcohol and hedonistic behaviour...aww perhaps I'm getting old?

I was invited for this party by some Smirnoff people, I just had to post something before the party to get things warmed up.

I managed to post something after the party too, just before passing out.

Anyway it was a pretty good party, there was a decent crowd.

Sanctuary Crowd

Joey G was the MC - isn't he always nowdays? I seem to see him at every event I go to.

Joey G

The finger food was pretty good - especially the sotong (yummy).

Holiday night out at Thai Club and BEST SUPPER EVAR!

So it was a holiday.

So I didn't get drunk this weekend.

So my liver was feeling too healthy.

So Paul and I decided WE SHOULD GO OUT.

We originally planned to go to Rum Jungle, as I've never been there before I wanted to check it out, but the 'contact' there was a fucking asshole, as we were 15 minutes late he claimed we cancelled the table.

So then it was basically FUCK RUM JUNGLE, FUCK THEM IN THEIR STUPID ASSES.

And off to Thai Club we went, upstairs, Thai Cowboy Cafe or whatever it's homo name is.

It was pretty good, with some decent music and quite a crowd, probably due to the holiday next day, many people had the same idea as us.

We got a free mini bottle of Chivas with our big one, so cute

Mini Chivas

I don't know who ended up with it, probably KY the sneaky bugger.

We had half a bottle of something else too..and cutest Suan evar?

Jim and Suan

There was of course hot chicks..

Hot Chicks

And handsome guys..

Handsome Guys

Following the fairly healthy amount of alchohol, we proceeded to the best after drinking supper place in the world, petaling street, for Siu Yuk Min and Low Shui Fan.

This is seriously best after drinking, salty, tasty, oily and rich.

Siu Yuk Min

The mouse tails were much better than last time too, tastier and better texture.

Low Shui Fan

Really good, fun night out :)

If you want to go there, the street is actually parallel to Petaling Street, the one just before.

Head towards Petaling Street from Pudu, and take a left as soon as you pass the Nando's there, and head to the end of the street, pass one of the dudes a couple of bucks for 'watching' your car, and feast up.

Clubbers haven.

Random Ramblings - Poppy sucks ass

The London Tragedy has put a sad edge on things, kinda depressing.

At least 50 dead and 700+ injuries..

We are not afraid.

I am still missing my camera, and having withdrawals from not taking pictures..

There is a few movies out I want to see, Initial D, Unleashed and coming soon Seven Swords and Myth (Perhaps Fantastic 4 aswell)..

Guess I better do something constructive today like go shopping.

Went to Poppy last night, after hearing so much about it for so long from FireAngel, I thought it must be good.

Turns out it's complete shite, half open air concept with no air con, sweaty with the worst DJ in the world who played the same beat all night, like a 5 hour warm-up set, just makes you feel sleepy..yeah play the same songs more often please LEARN HOW TO WORK THE CROWD MOTHERFUCKER.

FA and Suanie FFK'ed us, but God and Kim were there, was kinda zz, hate going clubbing on Friday nights, no energy, lack of sleep.

Anyway better go and do something, like EAT!

Waking up on the right side of bed - I’m a night person..

It does a soul good
To see the sun beamin’
Now I continue my walk
Do a bit o’ day dreamin’.

Ray O' Sunshine by Ruth Norman

It's a pretty rare occasion I wake up before my alarm not feeling like I'm about to die, especially on boring long, drawn out projects like my present one, which tend to suck every drop of willingless to live out of my body and remove any motivation to get my ass off my comfy coconut fibre mattress.

Usually I wake up like arghhhwtfomgbbqplz IT CAN'T BE MORNING ALREADY!!

I am a night person though, it may be biorhythms or something, I thought it would be different in Malaysia as I'm in a different timezone, so it's not...

Perhaps I'm just a lazy bastard that likes to sleep a lot?

I am totally more alert at night though I have more brain activity, more creativity, more energy, everything..

By 11pm I'm usually wide awake, so sometimes I have trouble sleeping at midnight or before 1am..

From what I've seen most geeks seem to be like that...I always much prefered doing complicated things in the middle of the night, or doing things that require a lot of thought or concentration...for one the above, I am more alert, also there are no distractions, there's nothing on TV, there's no noise, it's quite and dark and cooling..ideal time to hack away at something.

Still for some reason I woke up this morning at 7.30 like wide awake, akin to being hit with a beautiful ray of sunshine...I was even shocked myself as to why and what the hell was happening..

So I got up and grabbed a coffee and surfed for a while, it was nice..

And here I am at work, I still don't feel as horribly listless and depressed as I have every other day on this project though, I guess it's just one of those good days, and I'm in a good mood..

I did have a great dinner last night though, impromtu beer and too much food session at Chili's Bangsar..with a bunch of hot chicks, people seem to keep commenting I'm always surrounded by chicks...must be my metrosexuality!

There was me, Suanie, Mata Kecik, FireAngel and Kimberlycun..

We had plenty of beers, LOADS of food, ok too much food and LOADS of laughs, was pretty hilarious, I had great fun.

Need to start eating less and get my flat (not fat) arse to the gym, am starting to feel noticeably unfit..

Don't worry though, no cause for alarm, I still look hot, bwahahha (beh paiseh)..

Have a great day, I love you all :P

Zoukfest - The Aftermath

So yesterday along with 8000 other ravers we all headed up to Genting for Zoukfest, the event of the year with people coming from Indonesia, Thailand and the Phillipines to join our party.

We all headed up in separate cars after lunch, God was first to reach I think along with his friends. Got there around 3.30-ish..

It was a nice day but freaking hot, seems like the haze has blown away and the blue skies are back, we passed batu caves on the way there.

The traffic was quite heavy with all the normal genting visitors plus the hordes of eager ravers in their Ah Beng wira's.

We parked deep in the bowels of first world hotel, something like 8 floors down. KY the original parking lucker found parking just as they drove in, as always.

When we arrived the whole place was packed with funky dressed ravers, you know camoflague trousers, some punks, people with so many earrings you can't feasibly count them, normal stuff (for ravers) and every Ah Beng hairstyle under the sun, saw some awesome mohicans.

There was loads suckers that hadn't got tickers earlier so where all jammed up towards the ticket office trying to get the last few before they sold out.

We went for some food whilst those in our group who didn't have tickets tried to get some.

I didn't take any pictures while we were eating, because well I was busy eating.

After that we hung around, found out who was where and what was going on, we decided to head on inside around 9pm as if we went in later, the queues to get in would be hideous.

It was fairly busy when we went in, but not overly packed, it was misty, windy, damp and cold though!

Of course when it's cold, the girls always get colder first, so I invite them to keep warm by getting it on with each other, yeah!

They had some stupid rule that you couldn't take cameras in, so they wanted to confiscate mine, I was like no fucking way man, then he was like ok, take 1 battery out, I said I can't...they are rechargeable, he was like hmmkay, don't take any pictures then, I was like yeah for sure...bwahahah

When we arrived it was already pretty full, probably more than half already, but it was still nice, plenty of space to move and dance and sit if you felt like it.

It was pretty hard to take pictures because of the mist, if you took a picture with flash, you just got a white haze, and nothing much else.

This is an edited picture of a part of our group (impossible to get everyone together, I think with friends and friends friends, there was around 100+).

There was two main areas, house/trance and RnB, the RnB area was a bit cheesy for me, but it got good just as we left :( (Chemical brothers, Prodigy, Beastie Boys etc.)

I stayed in the house area most of the night.

Kim alternated between the 2 areas with FireAngel, man FA dances like triple the speed of anyone else, when she dances everyone just stops and looks at her like WTF?!?

It was also hard to take clear pics with no flash and longer exposure because of the ridiculously powderful speaker systems which vibrated your whole body, including your eye balls.

So most of the pics either came out a) With fog or b) Not clear due to the vibration

The above is no flash, so a bit blurry, the below is with flash, so a bit misty.

This was the view from the floor when chilling, happy ravers everywhere.

God was looking cool as always

And the Faggot, well looking like a complete faggot

The live singer during one of the later sets was awesome, I think she said her name was Jody, most people didn't even realise she was live she was so good, I just happen to be tall enough to have noticed her :)

We headed out about 2.30 I think as a few people weren't feeling well (probably a combination of the cold and wet air and the overpowering bass from the huge walls of speakers), it was totally packed by then with people still flooding in. We hung out outside starbucks for an hour or so and left about 3.30.

Took us about 30 mins just to get out of the carpark because of was full of fog, visibility was about 2 metres.

Then the traffic outside was hell, so took about 45 minutes to get off the top of Genting, then down the hill with the horrible visibility. Eventually got home safely around 5am and passed out.

It was rocking, haven't been to a rave for a long time. The main thing about Genting is you don't have to worry about overheating..

And they save money as they don't have to buy smoke machines, you can see the lasers in the mist.

The moral of the story is, if you want to go somewhere, buy tickets before hand...don't ummm, hmmm, arrr, dunno. Have some balls, make up your mind and buy tickets. On the night there were touts outside selling tickets for 150 a pop, makes me wish I'd brought another 10 to sell. 100+ profit per ticket, sweet 1k for 10 minutes work.

Have to go to a wedding dinner now anyway so I'll sign off, hope everyone got home safely.

Peace.
