Congratulations
To all those that voted - whatever the pessimists say, you did make a difference.
5 states eh?
Samy out!
Kelantan retained, Kedah, Perak, Selangor and Penang won most by a huge majority.
Tides are changing - let's hope the future is a positive one.
BN was denied the crucial 2/3rds majority.
I hope the opposition ruled states can function under the reigning government, if they cut off their funding again?
The opposition are working together, PAS, PKR and DAP - DAP get's Penang, PKR gets Selangor. Both will hope for input from PAS too.
It looks good, non-racially based politics should be coming - one nation ftw!
Well - let's wait and see, it's still early days.

As I mentioned a few days back, I was in Penang over the weekend taking some pictures of the Penang Bridge Marathon 2007, no I wasn't taking part..If I was competing, I don't think I'd be sitting here typing now, I'd be in hospital.
So props to all those that managed to finish.
It was an interesting experience, especially having to be up at 2.30am to cover the team getting ready. I was also there the day before at the sparkling new Queensbay Mall for registration.

There was a hefty crowd gathering there.

Careful...can you believe they ran out of numbers? And the shirts they had, for all registered members were only "S" size. Not that you would have wanted to wear it for the marathon anyway.

Penang - Char Kway Teow & Blue Skies
Just got back from Penang, pretty exhausted having to wake up at 2.30am for the marathon, then hardly any sleep coming back.
Quite a few things to catch up with, so just a taster first.
One of my favourite foods in the world ever..

And a view through a sandy path, weather wasn't fantastic.
Sandy Path

I love it super-wide
Rocky Bay

I didn't take too many pictures, was pretty exhausted.
Deserted

The marathon was interesting though.
Will get some more up soon ![]()
Only in Malaysia 2 - The Egg Man
Only in Malaysia, Part 2.
Amazing stuff, how many dozen eggs, on the back of a bike..

Cool!
(I have seen worse, but this is the only good one I've managed to capture).
If you do your own post tag it onlyinmalaysia and if you upload to flickr tag it onlyinmalaysia and trackback the first post in the series. Cheers!
10 commentsMy favourite food in Penang isn’t even Malaysian!
It's Taiwanese, and man I LOVE IT!
It's at the skanky old shopping center in One-stop, Pulau Tikus, Penang.
It's called 'Taiwan Fast Food'.

They have a good menu and some set meal deals with unique stuff like 'Mini-steamboat'.

The interior decor is nice, it's plane and simple with a nice wooden bar and it's very clean and well lit.
They have some pretty interesting starters like a plate of duck tongue, yum?!

I went for a set meal with the lovely heart warming beef stew.

They have really good Gyoza type dumplings with the normal vinegar and ginger.

And some good chicken chop, reminds me of the chicken you get at SS2 Pasar Malam (I forget the name, but it's quite famous).

Don't worry I'm not that fat, I did go there twice, mainly I went twice to eat these steamed dumplings straight from heaven..

There are a few dumplings that are 'supposed' to be like this, full of soup! But these really are, when you take a bite of the perfectly steamed dumpling, the soup just squirts out into your mouth, it's amazing.
Seriously these are THE best dumplings I've ever had, if you are in Penang, or are going to Penang, you HAVE to try these at least once.
If anyone knows where I can find this kind of stuff in KL, PLEASE let me know!
22 commentsFamous Char Kway Teow, Ais Kacang and Popiah
So mostly I went to Penang to eat all the wicked stuff there, as you've probably noticed and I drove there this time so I was free to roam around, I chose not to get a local to show me around as I know quite a few places myself and I have more fun using a map and being independant.
The day after Roti Babi I went out looking for the best Char Kway Teow around, the one I had on the first day didn't quite do it.
I headed out to Lorong Selamat (off Jalan Burma/Macallister) to find some famous Char Kway Teow, it's been in the paper and shit so it must be ok, I've had the sisters one before with crab meat on top so I wanted to try this one.
I was greeted with the sight of a rather long queue..

And believe me when I say it was a VERY hot day.

What better to cool you down while waiting than some refreshing Ais Kacang!
It's apparently quite famous in Lorong Selamat too.

But well really it was worth the wait!

Some of the hugest, freshest best cooked prawns I've had, it was really really good Char Kway Teow.
And a good sized portion, for around RM7 if I remember correctly.

I had some Popiah too, which were good, not too rich and nicely made.

Here is the famous lady with her red hat and safely goggles cooking Char-ing the Kway Teow.

Seriously, worth the wait!
