Movie Review - Juno - Subtle

Juno is a whip-smart teen confronting an unplanned pregnancy by her classmate Bleeker. With the help of her hot best friend Leah, Juno finds her unborn child a "perfect" set of parents: an affluent suburban couple, Mark and Vanessa, longing to adopt. Luckily, Juno has the total support of her parents as she faces some tough decisions, flirts with adulthood and ultimately figures out where she belongs.
This is a fairly low budget movie from a first time screenwriter (Diablo Cody an ex-stripper) that has won some critical acclaim and some heavyweight awards (Best Original Screenplay Oscar and a bunch of other nominations). It also scored very highly on IMDB making the top 250 easily.
It's a movie that some average Joes won't like, it's rather caustic, it doesn't have a very twisty plot or much of a plot at all really. It's an exceedingly human movie, it's about the journey of a young girl, her decisions (abort, continue or retry hoho), her sarcasm, her issues and the people around her.
Ellen Page is very convincing and snarky as Juno, the star and Michael Cera plays pretty much the same role he did in Superbad.

He has the most classic dopey expression evar! He fits the role well though and it's all rather sweet in the end.
The movie expands well on the yuppie couple too, which I guess most writers wouldn't - those secondary people tend to get glossed over in most movies. I think what wins with this movie is the fact it ambles along, it's relaxed, but it doesn't miss anything and has a surprising depth.
For most audiences it'll have trouble competing against the frenetic big budget movies with huge names and massive marketing budgets, but if you want to see a real movie about real people - this is definitely one to watch.
The dialogue is great, it has moments that are laugh out loud funny - that's if you appreciate extremely crude insults and witty reparte.
I give Juno a refreshing sidestep from big budget overload 7.5/10.

Well I have a chair and a tidy appartment now...so I can continue with what I was doing! Live and Loud it happened to be..
So back to Live and Loud 2007!

Things really started to heat up when Project Pop came on from Indonesia - absolutely hilarious.

Really energetic and very entertaining, non-stop costume changes.

Who can fault 2 guys in dresses and blonde wigs!

A bit of atmosphere.

They really knew how to get the crowd moving.

This lady was large, and knew it and used it for comic effect

They did a hilarious techo vs rock skit as well - the drummer was fantastic breaking between a hardcore techno beat and classic rock seamlessly.

Excellent stuff - definitely one of the most entertaining performances of the night!
Lot's of things to catch up with now...so hopefully I'll be able to get the rest of live and loud done, then I can get onto the waterfalls - and various other things.
Merry Xmas!

Nicholas Angel is the finest cop London has to offer, with an arrest record 400% higher than any other officer on the force. He's so good, he makes everyone else look bad. As a result, Angel's superiors send him to a place where his talents won't be quite so embarrassing -- the sleepy and seemingly crime-free village of Sandford. Once there, he is partnered with the well-meaning but overeager police officer Danny Butterman. The son of amiable Police Chief Frank Butterman, Danny is a huge action movie fan and believes his new big-city partner might just be a real-life "bad boy," and his chance to experience the life of gunfights and car chases he so longs for.
Following in the vein of Shaun of the Dead (SOTD) another black comedy from the same gang with a few other familiar faces like Timothy Dalton (James Bond remember?).
It's gone straight into the top #250 at #135 on IMDB!
I don't think it did very well in the movies here, people don't seem to be such fans of dark British comedies like this, if you like stuff like The League of Gentlemen you'll love movies like this.
Most people wouldn't get the in-jokes, the poking at Hollywood movies and the mountain of movie geek references. I think you have to watch this movie 2-3 times to get them all.
Weird, odd, gory, funny, stupid and black like tar.
It's pretty much a crazy movie, with a ridiculous plot, a lot of recognisable faces (only if you are from UK or a fan of UK drama/comedy shows though) and a wicked fast pace.
There was some serious actors used and they did really well, it's a non-stop movie and has visual gags too if the subtle humour is too deceiving.
I have to say though on first watch I definitely enjoyed SOTD more.
I'll surely watch Hot Fuzz again though.
I didn't know what the movie was about when watching it and had no preconceptions, I'd just heard a few people mention it in the same sentence as SOTD...and it's British so it must be good
Simon Pegg nailed it again as Nicholas Angel the supercop.

Basically the movie is like Midsummer Murders + Bad Boys 2, you are kept guessing "Who dunnit?"
And the pace is nice, it doesn't start out as sharply as SOTD, but it certainly gets moving after 20 minutes or so.
If you enjoyed SOTD, you'll love this.
If you like black comedy, you'll love this.
Definitely worth a watch, especially if you are dying for something different.
I'd give it a spike through the chin - 8/10.

That I've seen anyway, in UK I've seen some much cooler ones. But the system allows for more variety.

Somehow it reminds me of the unfortunately named Pen Island (http://www.penisland.net/).

An European tourist was visiting a temple in Singapore when he noticed two statues, a man and a woman by the altar.
He asked the monk what was the significance of the two.
The monk explained that in the Chinese belief of yin and yang, positives must always be balanced by negatives, and having the two statues ensures that the universal balance is maintained.
"This statue of the woman is the Goddess of Mercy, Kuan-Yin."
"What about the other one?" asked the tourist.
"This is the God of No Mercy, Kuan-Yew."
