Stupid Taxi Drivers..

Taxi drivers in Malaysia get a lot of bad press for not using their meters, not taking people if the distance is too short or too long, charging more if it's raining, charging more if there's a traffic jam or just plain refusing to take people because they don't feel like going where you want to go.

For me if a taxi is for hire, you should get in - state your destination and off you go.

Anyway have you noticed the worst drivers on the road are also taxi drivers? Cut queues, change lanes recklessly? No signal, no indication of intent? They drive too fast or too slow...of course there are some good taxi drivers, but on the whole?

I managed to avoid them mostly with their crazy antics, but this time I didn't, I was coming out of 1-Utama carpark (new wing) onto the 3-lane section that goes back to the main road.

My lane was empty, let's call it lane one - I double checked, no cars coming so of course I pulled out onto the lane..

Well I managed to pull out half way..when a taxi in the second lane decided to cut into the first lane without any signal, very suddenly..so of course I was half way out there's nothing I can do, he just ploughed straight into the front corner of my car and didn't stop, so he dragged the entire side of his car along my bumper..

He managed to completely crush the side light (thankfully not the headlight) and due to good design, the bumper absorbed the impact and the bracket popped (so no real dent) there's one very deep scratch though.

Sidelight Death

Care is in the workshop now, it was time for service anyway...service is done but it'll take another 2 days to repair and respray the bumper *sigh*.

Plus about 3-400 bucks to fix (I'll fix the part that got busted at Plaza Damas too) + normal service.

Shit happens! Just beware of the taxis.

Getting There

Ok I’ve just painstakingly restored all the posts I could find since September 10th until now from Google Cache, I've lost some of the content of the posts (just a couple) because I was using the more tag...so they weren't cached on the front page and the individual posts weren't cached at all :(

Everything should be back up and working now! All posts are restored.

Anyhow things should all be restored now - and it was incredibly boring…so it shows the power of taking regular backups. I’m incredibly thankful I took my own backup on September 10th…I can’t imagine what it would be like if I hadn’t backed up or it was 2-3 months out of date.

I made a few upgrades as well seen as though I was re-installing the whole site..I’ve upgraded to the latest branch of Wordress - 2.3 and I’ve internalized the tags so they no longer point to Technorati. I’ve also upgraded all plugins and mods so we should be stable and secure now.

You can now click the tags on the index or inside posts and they will take you to the tag archive page for that tag.

The sites feels a bit faster and more responsive to me after I’ve upgraded to 2.3, but that might just be me.

Do let me know what the performance is like from your side, especially now I'm using a Malaysian host it should be much more responsive for local browsers.

Now I gotta set-up some proper back-ups!

If you spot anything funky or something going wrong/error/weird behaviour/files missing just drop me a comment or use the contact form and let me know.

There's just a couple of image files I've found which are missing and the CSS file needs a bit of tweak to get the comments looking nice again - but I think that's about it.

Upgraded, recovered and back on track.

Regular posting will resume in the next 1-2 days after I get some sleep. I've still got 6 million other things to do! Argh!

Thanks for the kind words, e-mails and comments - I appreciate it!
