World Lupus Day & Anything Butterfly Contest and Exhibition
So May 10th came faster than expected and everything seemed to come together just in time, World Lupus Day was here!
The first part was getting the Anything Butterfly Photography Competition running, which we got going with the help of the large member base on Shutter Asia, fellow bloggers giving it a mention and adverts donated by Nuffnang!
Plenty of entries came in, Thursday night was reserved for judging, how we did so is explained here:
Winners of the Anything Butterfly Contest
You can also view the winning pictures there.
Friday night was sticking the winning picks on the mounting boards along with the Lupus posters and information for the exhibition.
The exhibition is on until the 18th of May so please do check it out in 1-Utama near the Oval in the new wing on the 1st floor (You can also buy one of my framed pics for charity!).
Saturday was the event itself, after a late night out at Starbucks it was up and out to 1-Utama, the others had been there since earlllyyyy setting up the panels, carpets and so on.
Freaky was the main organiser + sponsor seeker + everything else + emcee for the day!

Along with the runners up and consellation prize winners we also had stories of lupus displayed.

KL Butterfly Park Redux - New and Improved with Milk Bottle Diffuser!
So I organised a trip to the butterfly park with Shutter Asia as I wanted to test out my refined skills in Macro photography plus my new Raynox DCR-250 closeup filter and my botol susu flash diffuser.
I have to say it was a success! I'm extremely happy with the pictures, probably the first macro set that I really like - I tried to concentrate more on composition and taking attractive pictures rather than just snapping away and taking documentary pics or trying to get as close as possible.
You can see the pics I took last time here:
Macro at the Kuala Lumpur Butterfly Park - Taman Rama-Rama
That was my first Macro outing back in December 2006.
I'll post some pics of the homemade diffuser up now I have a new compact camera - more about that later too
Anyway on to the pics!
My favourite shot of the day - Up close and personal.

Creamy Orange

My second favourite - Feeding time

Moms Trip - Day 6 - Kuala Lumpur Butterfly Park (Taman Rama-Rama!)
Was at a bit of a loss when it came to what to do towards the end of the holiday as Mom has been here before, and we'd done most things, so she suggested the Butterfly park (Taman Rama-Rama in Malay), and off we went.

The entrance is about RM12-15 each, and RM2 for your camera!
It's a lush green jungle, it's enchanting as soon as you walk in. The Butterfly Park houses some 6,000 butterflies of over 120 species. The park is an imitation of the butterfly's natural habitat. It includes more than 15,000 plants from 100 species that have been used to recreate a Malaysian rainforest atmosphere

This is a huge moth, there was quite a lot of these.

There is actually butterflies everywhere, not like the crappy 'butterfly park' in Malacca, this place has thousands, literally.

Obligatory 'gay pose'.

Definately a good place if you are into Macro photography.

There's a large water piece running through the middle with massive Koi and a Tortoise section.

Love this picture.

It also has a very nice indoor section with a massive collection of weird insects from monster beetles to weird stick insects (dead and alive variants!).

Definately a fairly interesting place to spend an afternoon
Relaxing and interesting.
