I don’t have so much to document for this week because I away in Redang from Wednesday – Saturday, Saturday night I had a wedding dinner and Sunday we went a bit mad after being stuck on the island for a while.

Monday

Dinner was a really delicious Thai style chicken and pumpkin curry – I’d been wanting to try this for a while and it worked really well. It’s proper comfort food, I sat in front of the TV watching Sons of Anarchy and munched this down.

Tuesday

Lunch was something different! A lovely buffalo meat patty and scrambled eggs!

Dinner was tomato prawns, first time getting home-cooked prawns

Yes that may look like rice, but it is in fact grated cauliflower! Quite a life saver if you love rice and rich dishes that really need to be enjoyed with rice.

Wednesday

I took my car to service whilst I was away in Redang so we had to eat out for lunch, we ate at a coffee shop and ended up with 3 really rich dishes (consumed with no rice!).

Dinner was in Kuantan, managed to get away with just eating about 1/4 of a bowl of rice.

Lovely food though.

Thursday/Friday/Saturday

I ate as a little carbs as possible, but diving burns a hell of a lot of calories and there were no high calorie items such as beans available, so I did have some rice. A typical meal would look something like this (didn’t drink any sugared water…ok I had one can of coke, but I also drank a lot of beer haha).

It’s a holiday wei…what am I supposed to do. Didn’t have my phone with me the rest of the time so couldn’t really take any pictures of what I ate.

Saturday night was a garden wedding where I stuffed myself with a lot of butter and bread roles, we skipped lunch so we could get back in time and just ate a bunch of nuts in the car on the way back (almonds, pistachios and cashew nuts).

Sunday went a bit mad instead of getting back on the diet, due to the sad news – we were both in a bit of a weird mood. Not a mood conducive to eating eggs.

I had an all day breakfast at Sid’s (seems to be a common place for my cheat day haha) and a few pints whilst watching the Rugby.

For dinner we ate Japanese at Jaya One – it was ok. I was still hungry after that though so I had a Ramly burger and some potatoe chips – whoops.

Of course by Monday I was back on track

Weigh In

Monday Morning Weight = 124.1kg
Saturday Morning Weight = The best I have is Wednesday morning – before I went to Redang – where I weighed in at 121.9kg
Weight Loss = 2.2kg

Well I’ve decided I may as well document my effort at dieting here for my own good as much as anything else, and to put it out there in the public eye to put more pressure on myself to stick to it.

Also I like to think of it more as a paradigm shift in my eating than a diet, my goal is not only weight loss – but to be healthy. In a way this new food regime aims at body recomposition – loss of fat and gaining of muscle.

Anyway this and the following posts will basically document what I eat, and my weight fluctuations (which hopefully move downwards in general).

Monday

This is generally what breakfast/lunch looks like – before that I would have drank 500ml of iced water and taken my first dose of PAGG.

I won’t be posting much pictures of these, because it’s basically a bunch of eggs (fried/scrambled/omeletted etc) and some beans/spinach/salsa/ham/bacon etc.

The crucial thing is to eat 30grams of protein within 30mins or max 1 hour of waking.

Dinner was beef rendang with cauliflower rice, it didn’t work so well because it’s a fairly dry dish and the cauliflower taste overwhelmed me a bit even though the rendang was delicious.

Tuesday

You can work out what I had for breakfast/lunch I’m sure.

For dinner it was delicious Vietnamese mint chicken (recipe here) with cauliflower rice and fried cabbage, this worked much better as it was very rich and tasty and had a lot more sauce.

Wednesday

Peri peri pork kebabs (recipe here) with a delicious warm bean salad.

Super meal – thumbs up.

Thursday

This is a slow carb dish I’ve been asking for quite some time! Cottage pie with cauliflower mash instead of potatoe – it was delicious – probably my favourite meal of the week.

We devoured a huge pile of it, and I was the lightest I’ve been the next day – awesome!

Friday

A whole roast chicken stuffed with lemons! The chicken was beautiful but it lacked fillers, there were some sugar snap peas and roasted carrots but needed something like bean mash to round it out and fill me up.

And well I did good, I reached Friday without any sugar (any food was sweetened with Stevia if the recipe called for sugar), no carbs and no alcohol (the toughest one for me – but a large reason why I gained so much weight).

I did celebrate with a drink on Friday night, which I shouldn’t have – but I’d made it a whole week.

And well what comes after Friday? The best day EVER!! Saturday AKA Cheat DAY! The day we can absolutely anything we like in any quantity without remorse.

Saturday

Started off the day at Sid’s with a Ben Nevis burger and a pint of Guinness, followed by a pint of Kilkenny and 3 pints of Heineken whilst I watched Wales win and England lose in the Rugby.

After the rugby was done went home, then to Pavilion, was a bit hungry before the movie so I grabbed a Shimino crepe with butter cake and ice cream – it was delicious.

I finished a can of coke and the popcorn during the movie, and then after that we headed to SS2 for Frog Porridge! I had a can of coke with that too.

We went a bit mad after that and watched movies/TV till far too late, we went to McD and I consumed a double cheese burger, 2 pieces of ayam goreng and 2 chicken mcnuggets.

And as they say, that was the end of cheat day – I was truly stuffed like a pig.

Sunday

Back to reality, forced down a bunch of eggs for brunch.

Went out for dinner and hit the only really safely slow-carb place we’ve figured out so far, Nando’s. Grilled veges + 3-bean salad + half a chicken = perfect slow carb.

I love Nando’s, it’s delicious and totally on diet. I wish there were more restaurant choices in Malaysia that don’t shove processed white carbs down your throat.

I had a vodka + diet coke before bed – bad me. No more booze in the week.

And that’s week 1 wrapped, hoorah and let’s get on with week 2!

Weigh In

Monday Morning Weight = 124.8kg
Saturday Morning Weight = 121.5kg
Weight Loss = 3.3kg

If you’ve been to any of the major shopping malls (1U, Mid Valley etc.) or even some of the minor ones (SSTwo Mall) in the last month or so you may have noticed some small stalls with obscenely long queues.

I have to admit it piqued my interest, I thought WTF is that all about – must be some new craze! Remember the whole donuts thing and the crazy queues. Anyway I had a look, and it was a pearl tea stall called Chatime. I also noticed almost everyone on Twitter raving about it – with all kinds of people addicted to it, craving it every day.

Being the curious soul that I am, I couldn’t proclaim it a fad or scold them for being sheep without actually trying it myself. So that I did, I was out on a mission one night collecting a bottle of Glenfiddich 15 year old that a friend had got me duty free when I decided to try Chatime on the way home.

We popped into SSTwo Mall as we suspected it would have a lot less queue than other places we’d seen (Mid Valley was INSANE).

There was a small queue, but nothing too bad. I went for number 1, one of the recommended choices – Roasted Tea and I added pearls. It was RM5.90 for the large side, with an extra RM1 for the pearls. So almost RM7 for a tea……ok I thought to myself. Give it a chance!

Bear in mind I can get myself a small bottle of beer for RM7!

Honestly I was expected something amazing the way people have been raving about it, I expected to hear angels trumpets when I took my first sip.

Did I get that? No I did not.

Now don’t get me wrong, it’s not bad – it is nice. But is it that nice? No. Would I go out of my way to get a taste of it? No. Does it cost too much? Yes.

KL people have fairly advanced palates, so honestly I expected more from the ranting and raving. But then again, it’s just a difference of taste. Different people like different things.

It’s like when you go to see a movie that everyone has been raving about, or it won an Oscar or something…and then it’s like a 4/10. It’s that kind of disaappointed feeling (There Will Be Blood comes to mind).

It is decent tea, it has no ice in it (which is good), it doesn’t have the powdery pasar malam pearl tea taste (but then some people like that) and they are generous with the pearls.

But the best pearl tea I’ve ever had is from the Taiwanese restaurant at One-stop, Pulau Tikus – Penang.

There are plenty of other options around too, there a shop in Tropicana City Mall on LG floor that has no queue, tastes just as good and is about half the price of Chatime. I also like the tea from Little Taiwan (this one was from Tesco Kepong) for RM3.50. They have a promo at the moment, their tea without pearls is only RM1.80!

Anyway that’s my 2 cents on the whole Chatime thing, if you’ve tried it and you love it. Tell me why and which flavour you love, I’ll probably give it another chance one day – so I’m open to suggestions.

I truly do love KFC, I eat it regularly and it’s one meal that I’m always happy to pay for and always satisfied after eating it. Especially in Malaysia, I have to say the KFC here is WAY better than the KFC back home in the UK.

I also have a habit of trying out new fast food offerings as they come out in the major chains (like the toasted pocketful when it first came out!).

So I would have tried this Chicken Chop one way or another!

It’s a nice spacious outlet with plenty of parking and I was REAL hungry by the time I got there! And well the reason I was there of course, the new Chicken Chop – it comes served with fresh corn and potatoe wedges & my favourite Mountain Dew as the drink.

For the gravy lovers it comes with a pot of mushroom sauce you can pour all over or use for dipping, I’m a big gravy lover so I poured mine on – yummy!

Slathered in mushroom sauce! Delicious!

It makes for a very moist eating experience – just how I like it.

As for the chop itself, it’s basically a really nice piece of boneless KFC! The wedges go well with the meal and the corn gives it a hint of sweetness, overall it’s a very enjoyable addition to the menu. The portion size is a little small for me, I’d probably have to add another piece of chicken or something.

Carol was enjoying it that much – she had a second plate too!

Slurping down some mountain dew after polishing off 2 plates of chicken chop!

And what’s the best way to finish off a meal at KFC? With their fantastic egg tarts of course! I grab a few of these whenever I can, really good stuff.

If you’re a KFC fan and a Chicken Chop fan – do give this a try next time you have that fried chicken craving.

Oral hygiene is an important issue, after your milk teeth have dropped out and your adult teeth grown into place you only have one set left for the rest of your life!

You might remember a while back I had to find a dentist urgently because one of my fillings dropped out.

I use an electric toothbrush, floss, a tongue scraper and mouthwash! So I take my teeth fairly seriously.

I also (try to) go for regular check-ups at the dentist, although I am a little overdue at the moment.

Anyway the point is, Wrigley’s (yes the famous chewing gum folks) have come out with a new range of mints (Wrigley’s Extra Professional Mints) which aims to reduce potentially harmful bacteria in your mouth and give you a noticeably cleaner feeling tongue and mouth.

They are sugarfree of course (as must anything be if it’s going to help your teeth) and they come with a ridge design on one side that utilizes microgranules to give you a fresh feeling tongue and mouth.

New Extra Professional Mints are available in two flavours — Peppermint and Forest Berries and come in a nice handy tin.

Contest

They are also running a contest! It’s a flash game and you’ll be required to rub/scrape food off the tongue using a mint in order to score points.

Prizes

There is a weekly prize of a Sony Video MP3 Player and the grand prize is a Sony VAIO pocket style PC!

You can play now here:

http://www.extratongueskater.com/

So go grab your mints now!
