So I love playing Left 4 Dead 2, especially multi-player with friends, it’s just a really fun game – it’s pretty old now (it was released in 2009) but it’s till looks pretty good and is really fun to play and not too expensive (Steam link).

I found this config that makes the fast paced game a little easier to handle, it boosts FPS, uses a better cursor, brightens things up a bit, improves accuracy through network settings and a few other tweaks.

Overall it does make my game better, and recently I wanted to install it on the office computer but had immense problems finding it to download. So when I eventually did find it, I thought I’d better post it here without all the spam, ads and malware for people to get hold of it easier.

So yah, here is Kaizen’s Left 4 Dead 2 cfg version 1.1 – Last updated Nov. 21, 2009

Kaizen Left 4 Dead 2 Config cfg

Installation

Place this file (autoexec.cfg) into your Left 4 Dead 2 CFG folder, on my computer (Windows 7 64-Bit) this was the location:

C:Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Left 4 Dead 2\left4dead2\cfg\

To Remove

Simply delete (autoexec.cfg) and (config.cfg) found inside this folder:

C:Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Left 4 Dead 2\left4dead2\cfg\

Steam Launch Options

For an additional performance boost, customize your command line launch options for Left 4 Dead 2 in Steam before starting the game.

1. Go to “My Games” in Steam
2. Right click “Left 4 Dead 2” and select “Properties”
3. Select “Set launch options…” and enter the following:

-w 1920 -console -refresh 120 -heapsize 1572864 -high -noforcemaccel -noforcemparms -noipx -nojoy

This is for a 24.5″ Dell monitor 1920×1200 resolution, so find the correct resolution for your monitor to add to the -w option.

Launch Options Explained

-w 1680 Sets resolution to 1680×1050; for 16:10 widescreen monitors – tweak as necessary
-console Enables developer console; so you can press ~ to enter commands
-novid Disables the intro movie, speeds up game on start-up (doesn’t seem to work in L4D2 yet though)
-refresh 120 Forces 120hz/120fps refresh rate on monitor (if available)
-heapsize 1572864 Allocates RAM for the game; see table below for calculating optimal values
-high Forces high CPU priority
-noforcemaccel Forces desktop mouse acceleration settings
-noforcemparms Forces desktop mouse button configuration
-noipx Disables IPX network detection, local LAN (slight boot time improvement; you may need to remove this for LAN parties)
-nojoy Disables detection of 3rd party gamepads and controllers (slight boot time improvement)

Heapsize setting

Modify the heapsize command to allocate 50% of the RAM you have in your computer (NOT video card memory!) in bytes.

Formula = RAM (in GB) * 1024 * 1024 / 2

1GB -heapsize 524288
2GB -heapsize 1048576
3GB+ -heapsize 1572864

Since L4D2 is a 32-bit application it is believed to be capped at a maximum of 3GB of RAM. Setting heapsize to a value beyond this may crash the game.

So if you are into games, you probably know about Diablo III and the 12 year wait fans of the game have experienced. It finally hit the streets on May 15th (about a month ago) and everyone has been going wild on it since.

I’ve not really been into a game properly since DOTA classic on RoC back in the day (which I was quite possibly a little too into).

And now Diablo 3 – which despite the haters negativity – is a really good game. I finished it on Normal after about a week

I love the gameplay – both solo and co-op. The auction house is great, I’m not so sure about the RMAH (Real Money Auction House) as that may well break the whole online economy as people buy up everything of value causing massive inflation. Also the botting gold farmers are going at it hard, there are multiple sites online already selling D3 gold fora bout $8USD per 1 Million.

The RMAH will allow for the sale of entire characters too – so I think account hacking will be rife. Other than that – I love the game, the storyling, the gameplay and the thought needed about build and item combinations.

It’s a loot-fest yes, hack and slash..it’s Diablo – what did you expect exactly? My only real gripe is that the classes are really unbalanced – they are all fine at Normal and Nightmare – some are a little weak by Hell and completely useless by Inferno (OHAI Witch Doctor).

Demon Hunter is over-powered – too easy to build a glass cannon and just kite – if you are playing co-op any melee heros get butt-raped real fast. I hope more character balances come too because WD is probably the most interesting class.

Monk was the first roll though because it looks like me, he’s level 55 now and my WD is level 31.

The cinematics are absolutely STUNNING.

Diablo 3 III Cinematics

I found completing normal a little easy – especially with a melee character, definitely more challenging with a ranged char (without hand-me-downs from higher level toons). It was a bit pedestrian, things get a little more interesting on Nightmare – but still fairly easy for a well equipped character and shit gets real in Hell.

Diablo 3 - The Prime Evil

I killed Diablo first try tho – it was easier than I expected, some of the other bosses (and sub-bosses) were harder. The graphics are absolutely superb, it helps that I play everything on the highest settings – woohoo.

Dead Diablo

This was my Monk when I completed the game – Level 33 with 25 hours of play-time:

Diablo 3 - ShaolinTiger

My attributes after finishing normal:

Diablo 3 Monk Attributes

My DPS was pretty low, but I was a good tank with about 4000 hitpoints.

And my achievements when I was done (22% overall achievements done – high points being 42% Campaign, 31% General & 29% Crafting):

Diablo III - Achievements

I really love the achievements, and the fact the sub-quests are randomized so every time you play a map you discover different things. There’s still sub-quests that level 60 players haven’t seen yet (and don’t even mention Whimseyshire).

There’s still so much more to play and explore, I’ve finished it on Nightmare and I’m on Hell now – trying to get my monk to Level 60 and capable of kicking arse in Inferno.

That will be hard though and I’m guessing will require a lot of farming and some mad high DPS + high resistance items. I just started an alt character during the past weekend too as playing Monk on Hell was a little too intense sometimes.

My Monk has about 4000DPS now and about 50,000 hitpoints – which isn’t too shabby. I’m really lacking on resistance gear tho and need to start getting some RES ALL type items.

I’ve gotten a Witch Doctor and started power levelling him and tooling him up with some sweet gear, the server was down for a LONG time last night – so I spent a lot of time reading on the forums. Turns out WD (as I mentioned above) is the worst char at high levels right now LOL. Oh well – I hope to make him uber powerful and a useful co-op partner and hope they buff his dogs/other summons soon.

I’ll probably write another post later with a bunch of tips for the game I’ve learnt along the way.

Just discovered a neat DOTA wallpaper, so nice in fact I am using it on my laptop now.

Nice eh?

Was made by raydex2000 the original skin-master (no that’s not a p0rn term) from TWC.

3 versions are available in the Gallery HERE.

Played some hardcore inhouse DOTA games last night at home with the faggot, my PD needs a bit of work though, out of practise I guess 🙂

Will post again later..

(PD singing)
D to the izz-O, T to the izz-A

Welcome ladies and gentlemen to the 8th wonder of the world
The game of the century.. oh it’s timeless.. DOTA!
Thanks for hostin up tonight
You coulda been anywhere in the realm, but you’re here with East
I appreciate that.. uh..

D to the izz-O, T to the izz-A
Fo’ shizzle my nizzle used to push down early mid lanes
Was hurtin ’em in the tree of protectors; got xp cheap for them
Plus if they was short with cheese, Fuzzy work with them
Brought in Naix, got rid of that corpse for them
Wasn’t born inhouse, I was pubbin’em
D to the izz-O, T to the izz-A
Fo’ sheezy my neezy Frosty’s bite so freezy
Can’t leave edits alone the game needs me
Titan want me clapped and stunned it ain’t easy
SA wanna pop me, DK wanna box me in
But somehow, beat NE charges with Void-Stop, see
D to the izz-O, T to the izz-A
Not guilty, he who does not pool me
is not cool to me, therefore he doesn’t exist
So poof — lag out, son of a b****!

[Chorus]
D to the izz-O, T to the izz-A
Fo’ shizzle my nizzle used to push down early mid lanes
D to the izz-O, T to the izz-A
Cow as -random? man i can’t stand’em
D to the izz-O, T to the izz-A
Not filthy y’all got to pool me
D to the izz-O, T to the izz-A
Cow as -random? man i can’t stand’em

Holla at me…
I do this for some lovin’,
To let ’em know what a map look like, when a map triggers customs
Show ’em how to spam in a lane full of Hunts-and,
flashin trees shady, creeps need to be taken over
xp deniers hate me I’m raisin my level so up
I’m overnukin leshrac for what he did to the po’ Hunt
Play us like you own us for all the necro skellies rose up
We can talk, but manny walks so stack mo’ bucks

[Chorus]

Yeah…
DOTA’s back, life stories told through maps
people actin like it smoke like crack
Like I told you no bugs; no, patch did that
so hopefully you won’t have to go through that
I was raised in the beta, vamp lisks for strats
lich out back, freezin towers so tough
Lookouts on the corner, pinging on the map
DM in the window, ancients gettin tored up
Me under a damn host, why he got a slot closed?
Stacks in for long, watchin the long wait of the stall
So you know I seen it all before
I seen DE dreams deflate like a Manny who lanes
To lag and to bail, the two things I hate
Succeed in this map game, the two things that’s great
D to the izz-O, T to the izz-A
What else can I say about dude, my ping bizz-ay

[Chorus]

DOTA is teh pwn ok.

The new forum to hang out now for RoC DoTA is https://dotaforum.com

Currently the most played version is DOTA Classic 3.76c for RoC.

Following this it’d be DOTA Classic 3.78b but the changes are too radical for some people. This the current version with the latest RoC patch (1.22.whatever).

The other 2 which are still popular are DOTA Rumble which is fun too, with just 1 lane down the middle and DOTA (Danites Hell 2 Beta 3) with all Random Skills.

I’ve narrowed down the list just to leave the latest versions.

To play the latest RoC versions you will need Warcraft III 1.17 (or 1.22 to play Battle.net) version which you can get HERE

If you want to know what DOTA is, you can click HERE.

If you want to get Allstars please get it here:

DOTA is an acryonym and stands for Defence of the Ancients. It’s a custom made map for the excellent Blizzard Game Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos.

It’s probably the best computer type game I’ve ever had the misfortune to play (it’s so utterly addictive), it’s extremely well polished and well balanced and the depth of skills you can build is very broad.

It’s a team based game with two side, The Scourge (Undead) and The Sentinel (Night Elf), the old cliched ‘good’ and ‘bad’ sides.

There are 12 players to pick from on each side and a maximum of 5 may be picked per game (5 per team) so it’s a 10 player game.

I’d never played a RPG kind of game like this before, and I went straight to DOTA without playing WCIII at all.

I was hooked…it’s all about team play, timing and strategy, you don’t need lightning fast reactions like those other Ah Beng[/url] games (COUNTERSTRIKE)..

You buy items, level up your character, earn money and spend it, work together with your team mates and pwn the other team.

To quote the Official DOTA FAQ, what is the point?

To take control of a single hero and destroy the opposing computer-controlled base. As you attempt to destroy the enemy base, other player-controlled heros from the other team will often try to kill you. Each hero has different skill types, and is played a different way.

The heros have 3 main attributes like normal Warcraft, Strength, Agility and Intelligence, they have 1 which is stronger than the others, this is known as the primary attribute so Melee characters would generally be strength, ranged fighters agility and spell casters intelligence.

You can buy items to increase certain stats to build upon their natural strenghts and to improve their weak characteristics.

Each of the 24 characters has different spells, skills and a different play style. Some are seigers (to kill buildings), some are hero killers and some are support heros.

Each hero generally has 4 spells/skills, each time you level up you can choose a new skills, the 4th or ‘ultimate skill’ can only be chosen at level 6 or above.

The map has 3 main lanes, each contain a few towers, then barracks (which produce creeps), then super towers, then the main base (crypt or tree of life) which needs to be destroyed to end the game.

That’s a basic summary…will post some strats and guides at a later date.

The best place for info on this game is The War Center, you can find extensive build guides and strategies here.

If you want to be good, read the FAQ, pick a character, read all the builds and play that character for a while until you are decent, rinse and repeat for each char…

It’s important to know every character so when you are playing with them in your team or against them you know what spells they have, how much manna they cost, the cooldown etc.

After this for strategies watch replays, as many as you can!

I found this excellent guide from one of the ward players to some top strats:

Competitive AT strategies for DOTA !!

Yes I’m a complete addict and have become a DOTA god 😛

You can download all the latest DOTA maps on my site[/url]. DOTA Classic that is, not Allstars.

For information and downloads for Allstars go to https://www.dota-allstars.com

P.S DONT PLAY ALLSTARS ITS AN UNBALANCED PIECE OF CHILDISH CRAP Although 6.x series is a lot better now that monkey Guinsoo stopped editing.
