Authentic Hiroshima Okonomi Yaki & Gyoza

Well there's this little place in Ikano Power Center I love...it's a kind of strange concept, it's 2 seperate Japanese eateries within one shop, they share the space, and you can sit in either half and get food from both.

One called Daimon (Serving Okonomiyaki noodles).

One called ChikuHo (Serving soba, gyoza, fried pork and other Japanese treats).

I am a HUGE fan of Gyoza, so I order them everywhere I go, sadly I am usually quite disappointed, but not here, cooked to perfection and tasty!

The Japanese style fried pork is fantastic too.

And then of course when you are there you have to sample the famous Okonomiyaki noodles, they aren't cheap coming in at about RM20++ per plate, but they are big enough to share between 2 people, with some Gyoza from ChikuHo.

There are 2 bottles delivered with the noodles, normal and spicy, very unique sauce which hits the spot.

The taste of the noodles is great, very wholesome, fresh and natural..loaded up with squid, prawns and loads of cabbage, all wrapped thinly in egg. Something like Japanese mee pattaya I guess ;)

I heartily recommend it anyway and suggest you all go there immediately and EAT IT NOW!.

If you want to find the place, it's near the post office, A&W and Manhattan Fish Market in Ikano.

    Oh. My. Gawd.

A few days back, I was thinking of procuring myself a Japanese chick, to convert into a wife. Several reasons for that.

Chiefly, because they're submissive, and because they're just too damn cute.

    (I blame TV for this.)

But also, for another reason: sushi is their natural food. Before the Western-food infection took place of course. And sushi is good. Always.

Anyway, If this is the kind of food that I'll be eating when I marry a Japanese, hell yes, I want to marry one, NOW.

ShaolinTiger, could you do me a favour? Please, oh pretty please, package the food up for me, and courier it over to my place here in Melbourne.

I assure you that I will worship you as as a higher deity for the rest of my life.

(I mean, I'm a cool deity myself. So imagine the possibilities that would arise if I put you on a pedestal higher than myself. Imagine the hordes of screaming women who'd die just for you.)

    ShaolinTiger. Send. Food.

I don't think it's in the Curve. I've been there gazillion times as well. I think Shaolin is referring to Ikano because as he says it's beside the Manhattan Fish Market.

    ST's right.

The Okonomiyaki there is damn good.

Also, don't mind the fact that the place always looks empty - it's not because the food sucks.

If you're not familiar with Japanese cuisine, there's a lot more than just sushi, sashimi, noodles and tenpura. This is a great example.

Okonomiyaki is invented in Hiroshima due to food shortage after WW2. So "authentic" okonomiyaki will cook without any meat.

It is tasteless food with flavour come from the sauce. But the strange thing is, once you tried it, you really want to try it again from time to time, I am one of those ;)
