Oktoberfest is a great global celebration, a time to enjoy friendship, good food entertainment and of course – plenty of BEER! Honestly I don’t need much of an excuse to enjoy a beer or 5, but a whole celebration dedicated to beer? That’s my kind of thing.
Oktoberfest is a 16-18 day festival held each year in Munich, Bavaria, Germany, running from late September to the first weekend in October. It is one of the most famous events in Germany and the world’s largest fair, with more than 5 million people attending every year. The Oktoberfest is an important part of Bavarian culture. Other cities across the world also hold Oktoberfest celebrations, modelled after the Munich event.
There were a few major Oktoberfest events this year kicking off on October 1st at Souled Out in Sri Hartamas, after that there was also Sid’s in TTDI and then Laundry Bar at The Curve – which is the one I attended.
There are 14 main tents at the original Oktoberfest and FOUR of them are from Paulaner, so it really is a TRUE Oktoberfest beer. So of course on arriving I had to get myself a Paulaner!
As you can see the Paulaner is at the front, it’s a richer darker beer than the Tiger you can see behind. It’s a more fragrant and malty drink, less of the sharp lager taste but still not as heavy as stout (like Guinness). If you like yourself a beer you should check it out.
Of course part of parcel of Oktoberfest is entertainment so there was a rocking oldskool German style band playing some tunes and entertaining the crowd.
When drinking so much beer…you must eat, if not you are gonna be face down pretty fast. Laundry had a few Oktoberfest options so I got myself the beef frank sandwich, it was pretty good and a great aid for soaking up the beer in my stomach!
After the sandwich was dealt with..it was time for copious amounts of alcohol! Check out the massive steins we were putting away.
There were plenty of games going on where you could win various prizes to keep the crowd pumped along with the band and the booze it was a great atmosphere!
Nicholas was loving his beer!
And I loved the fact the Oktoberfest girls were going around taking Polaroid pics and handing them out to the crowd, this is our awesome group shot.
I honestly don’t remember who got to keep it in the end. After that the drinking games started and people starting dropping with flies, along with the fact the band was getting everyone to drink along!
All in all it was a super fun night, I’m happy we can celebrate Oktoberfest in Malaysia now too!
