The Present I Bought Myself! - Samsung 226BW 22″ Widescreen LCD
I've been wanting to get rid of my monitor for quite some time, heading towards a decent sized LCD, I was struck with the Viewsonic 2025 20" Widescreen for a long time, but it didn't even excite me enough to rush out and buy it.
I have been using a 19" CTX Pro grade monitor with a Sony Trinitron CRT tube for about 5 years.

I had noticed 22" prices had been dropping a lot too, so I started looking at those, surfing endless reviews...going around shops and testing them.
And I do a lot of high resolution picture editing now, so stuff like backlight bleed and tonal range (especially greyscale for B&W conversion) is important.
The Samsung 225BW was pretty nice, but not nice enough, the Acer also ok, the Dell ok...the Viewsonic 22" models were surprisingly bad.
Then my prayers were answered, Samsung released an updated model with the problems fixed, the 226BW! I rushed off to Low Yat to buy one, only to find Samsung distributor has a stock shortage.
I stopped myself from buying an inferior model I knew I wouldn't forgive myself for...and waited.
I was thinking about it again, two days before my Birthday I called my favourite computer shop in SS2 - Computer War, and they had stock! At a fantastic price, a clear 100RM cheaper than Low Yat...and Digital Mall, don't even mention that place.
What a beautiful sight!

I unpacked it, it's a work of art!

My room looks so much bigger now and 1680x1050 resolution rocks, I took it for a quick ride on Call of Duty 2, fantastic!

Bargain of the year if you ask me, get down to SS2 and grab one while you can!
I think 22" LCD is about the best price per pixel you can get now.
P.S - If you do want to buy one, make sure you get the S panel from Samsung not the A panel from AUO

Wah lau~! How much did you pay for that? Didn't mention the price also. To think that I bought my 15" LCD that time was RM1.2k. Tsk!
Using
I can get it for 450 canadian dollars. How much did you pay for it. My price is retailer's price.
Using
i just got a viewsonic 22" last week as well.
Using
Your room looks really clean. I'm impressed!
Using
appears that the shop is offering it for RM1,198 at the site, prolly could be cheaper if bargaining is allowed i think.
Using
Great post--my current monitor's backlight is starting to crap out and I've been looking for a decent replacement. Any nitpicks since you started using it?
Using
RM 100 short from RM 54000 ? how much is it
Using
From Computerwar's website it says RM1,198.
Using
Nice B'Day present.
Using
Nice... Mine only 17" Dell but somehow it feels so much larger than IBM's but damn... 22" ?!! I used a 19" before & to me it was huge.. but awesome, of course... ;p
Poor Patrick & the penguin relegated to the side.. haha
Using
Jason: Price is on Computer War site pricelist
RM1198
Mama BoK: You can calculate from RM1200 which is 402CAD.
Paul Tan: 2245? I tried both the Viewsonics, didn't like em.
marina: Wei I'm a tidy person, not all men are pigs!
moons: Their price is usually best price give or take, they don't bother with marking up then bargaining down.
Kurt: Only that the stand is not adjustable (no tilt or height adjustment) so I might invest another RM100 or so in an ergo stand. The monitor has standard VESA mounting too so it's cool! And the blinking blue light on the front when the monitor has no signal is a bit annoying if you have it in the same room you sleep, but I don't so its ok. If you are into graphics it'd be worth calibrating it with a Spyder2Pro or something aswell (that goes for just about any monitor though).
Elise: Yah can't put anything on the top, and it's too slick for the webcam, it keeps sliding down.
Using
Sweet... now all you have to do is get a second one and have a dual mon setup XD
Using
RM 1200!! It's not that expensive after all! I've got to consider this baby...
Using
That's so damn cheap. I terribly miss Malaysia and the computer in my office. Over here in the UK you can't even get a 15" LCD monitor at that price.
Using
i think my laptop won't be able to support this resolution. lol.
Using
Nice monitor!
I play Call of Duty (1) on the [FS] server almost everyday.
Using
I got myself a 19" BenQ two weeks ago for abt 600++!
w00t!
Using
Wow,if only they come with detachable stand and you could just hang it on the wall to save further space!
Using
SONOFA..... And all I work from is a tiny laptop screen
Using
Nicholas: Yah I did consider that...but it's a bit overkill haha..one for editing image close up and the other screen for actual size preview with portrait/landscape swivel for the orientation, awesome!
Chapree Da Grande: Seriously, it's a real bargain!
Adam: It's not much difference in price dude, dunno where you get your info from
The Samsung happens to be quite a bit more in UK, due to it being a new product, but you can get some good 22" deals like this.
KY: I think you're right heh.
Crunk Juice: Never tried it multiplayer.
Kuzco: Nice! Bargain.
FISHINGKAKI: The stand is detachable and it has standard VESA fittings on the back so you can wall mount it easily.
Boss Stewie: Tiny...Mac screen costs more than a HUGE non-Mac screen ok.
Using
i use a TV as a monitor...viewsonic..NW3260...resolution not as high though....1366x768 only...and i had it wall mounted.
Using
CoD multiplayer is amazing....
I played the game version, then stumbled on the multiplayer......3 years later and i'm still playin' nearly daily.
keep up the gangsta-ass blog\english style

Hey, I just picked one up today at CompWar on your recommendation. Strangely, the stock they had wasn't the "S" panel or even the "A" -- instead I got a "C". WTF is a "C"? Chi Mei? I hope to God not.
I don't know how an "S" performs, but mine has noticable bleed on the top and bottom on a black screen, and a blue cast. How's yours like?
Dennis gave me a week to test it and return it if it's a dud, and so far, it is. How many boxes did they have to open to get you the "S"?
Using
ront: Good plan!
Crunk Juice: Sounds dangerous..to productivity
Kurt: That's really odd, even after a quick Google I can't find anything about a C panel...mine was S, first one I opened was S! It has some bleed at the top and bottom with a dark screen, but it's not overwhelming and there's no colour cast at all, colour is great and punchy with no weird tones. The reds seem a little pinker than they did on my previous monitor, but that's about it. Just need to borrow a Spyder off someone and calibrate it to make sure.
Using
i had a serious problem with samsung LCD product...in the end..they acknowledged it and i had it refunded...now i have a philips.
Using
I did the same -- nothing on "C". There were a few stuck pixels anyway, so I returned it for a new one. The fresh batch comes in Friday, so we'll see what I get then. Cheers mate.
Using
ront: I don't tend to form an opnion of a whole brand because of one incident.
Kurt: Good luck on the new batch.
Using
its only the lcd product i am talking abt.....
and its a known problem across the globe...i mean it has been discussed in forums by owners from many countries.
