I thought I would like to stay longer in Malaysia, but when I got robbed several times on the streets in Sg. Petani, Kedah, then I realized Malaysia is not an ideal place for a family. We reported the incident in the Police but what they did was only took our statement and placed in their thick files of unsolved crimes. I wonder why the Chief of Police in Sg. Petani allows his policemen to just stay in their aircon-office - police must be outside of the office to patrol the streets - police are not hired to do just clerical works. They are getting high salaries and only hatching their eggs in the office, are they afraid of sunlight..?

[...] I could even pay for everyone in my family to participate in the MM2H programme twice over. Is that love or is that love? [...]

Ok I'm here now too ;)

Lucifer: This is not my country either, I'm British ;) Merely making an observation about the screwed up system. The system does leave a lot to be desired, I think we can both agree on that.

BlackGoblin: Sounds like heaven...but sadly yeah I think we all need to work, so a system where we can't work or do business? No thanks.

Adm: PR and MM2H are different man.

terenceg: You have no idea, seriously. I think anyone that wants to leave here needs their head looked at :P It's a growing economy, there's money on trees here waiting to be plucked. Everyone else is saturated..you can got there and be a dishwasher and earn more than a normal job here..of course. But here if you apply yourself a little bit it's so easy to excel and be a market leader because everyone is closed minded, money faced and lazy. It's easy to stand out here, it just takes a little application and imagination.

Rajan R: The food, the people, the weather, the <del>bitches</del> beaches, the opportunities here more than make up for the funky laws and screwed up bureaucracy.

Rob: Sadly so, mostly I feel due to lack of transparency in the government and the civil service. UK is even more screwed than here, that's why I left. 2 million Polish immigrants expected in 2007 now Poland is part of the EU they can travel and work freely in the UK. Plus the national health service, the involvement with Iraq, the education system crumbling, the lax labour laws with dole blaggers everywhere. P.S. Yeah I was at Curve Saturday night, I am tall! And thanks..

Hi
The MM2H was bound to attract corruption like any program involving large amounts of money. Doesn’t mean it’s because of the program, just the corruption problem. I did think that perhaps this program could bring too many people in too quickly and make the locals feel uncomfortable and pushed out. I come from the UK and in a sense Malaysia is my second home - I have family here. In the UK the locals have similar feeling about outsiders coming in and overwhelming the system.

terenceg: yes the funky laws are a nuisance and there are plenty of things about Malaysia don't like, but perhaps with more visitors these perpetrators will be become more exposed. For your information I don't think the UK is much better with the party donations scandal and the whole Iraq fiasco.

BTW ST – it was you I saw at the curve Saturday evening with your other half ? you were much taller than I expected, not to mention taller than your other half. You look good together

terencg: Is Malaysia that crappy that foreigners should not come because of rarely-enforced 'funky' laws? Perhaps the food is much better than the inconveniences of our moral police, perhaps the weather is warm enough to offset other stupid laws.
