snap.com FUCK OFF

I hate that shitty snap.com preview shite.

Take it off your sites you assholes.

IF I WANT TO SEE THE SITE I WILL CLICK ON THE LINK.

I don’t want to pop up in my face when I run my cursor over some anchor text so I can see the link location in my status bar.

It disrupts my reading.

I don’t know why you use it anyway as it takes traffic away from your site, not brings it.

You may well think it’s cool and “web two point oh”..

But it’s not it’s just gay and annoying.

    hahahhah chill … chill …

hahahaha people might think its cool as it provides you with a snapshop of how the site looks … but if i wan to know what the site is, i can just go over to the site, and the blardy snapshot is damn small …

its just useless from what i see

  3. earl-ku January 18, 2007 at 4:34 pm #

    hahahahaha

    where did my comment went?

  4. ShaolinTiger January 18, 2007 at 4:36 pm #

No where bro it’s right here?

  5. freelunch2020 January 18, 2007 at 4:45 pm #

    yeah damn annoying shit

  6. Boss Stewie January 18, 2007 at 4:51 pm #

snap ? wherE? i’ve never been bothered by snap before

  7. suanie January 18, 2007 at 4:54 pm #

    i hate it too.

  8. ShaolinTiger January 18, 2007 at 4:55 pm #

Boss Stewie: The example that ticked me off is here, because they have so mean freaking links the snap shit pops up all over the place when I’m trying to read. I’ve noticed a lot of blogs have installed it in the last week or two.

  9. Mydeen Aboo Backer January 18, 2007 at 5:13 pm #

Mydeen thinking a lot about what the white man has said. Maybe the white man has a point, but the white man can also turn off the Javascript if he thinks it is too obtrusive.

But then the snap thing also give you link at bottom of browser, what ?

Chill, white man. Come to Mydeen’s teh tarik and then can have some tok kok some more.

  10. ShaolinTiger January 18, 2007 at 5:16 pm #

Mydeen Aboo Backer: I could turn off JavaScript but then I lose all the interactively from AJAX on the other sites I use.

I could install something like NoJS and selectively choose to disable JavaScript on your site…

But why should I have to?

And yeah I still get the URL in the status bar, but I also get a massive white square in the middle of the paragraph I am currently trying to read.

And what point does the rather invasive preview make? Oh isn’t it pretty? It’s not large or high resolution enough to actually read the text, so it’s not a true preview, it’s fairly pointless. Unless you tend to visit sites on the basis of their beauty (the opinion of this gained from a small thumbnail), it’s actually completely useless.

Thus from a technological view, simply annoying!

  11. Mydeen Aboo Backer January 18, 2007 at 5:19 pm #

Mydeen got simple solution to white man’s problem. Maybe white man shouldnt have mouse pointer hovering above a link when he’s reading paragraph. Then when white man want to click on link, only then can hover.

    Cool, white man ?

  12. ShaolinTiger January 18, 2007 at 5:21 pm #

Mydeen Aboo Backer: But it’s not that simple, your anchor text doesn’t indicate where the link goes to (like most other peoples), so the relevance of the link is only gained when I hover my mouse over to see what URL it points too (maybe I know the article, probably I’ve already read it). Slashdot gets around this by embedding the URL at the end of the anchor text. I’m not in the habit of clicking here and there, hence the mouse-over whilst reading 🙂

  13. Mydeen Aboo Backer January 18, 2007 at 5:24 pm #

Ahh, white man is of the Slashdot crowd.

Maybe white man may want to read about Ted Nelson and Xanadu. Maybe anchor text should be descriptive contextually instead of being blandly reproduced. So now when white man hover over link, white man can see URL in status bar and preview in snap popup.

Ok, Mydeen have to go and serve customers now. Teh time, so white man coming over to Mydeen’s shop or not ?

  14. ShaolinTiger January 18, 2007 at 5:30 pm #

Mydeen Aboo Backer: Haha, of course I know about Xanadu, the longest running vapourware in the history of the Internets. I totally agree anchor text should be contextual and I also gather additional context from the URL where the information is based. I don’t agree however on the snap preview and don’t see it’s purpose at all. I’d rather go a couple of doors down from your shop 😉

  15. Dek Mat January 18, 2007 at 6:21 pm #

Err for your info, Mydeen as the Chairman of the Information Technology Committee was the one that put it up (runs away and hides as he appropriates blame)

    hahaha but seriously

We at SiPM would always love to hear feedback from fellow netizens hence why we started a blog with commenting features, but to date many seem to be shy to comment.

    Oh well we tried.

But if you’re not the shy type, hop on over and let us know what you think! 🙂

If you ask politely and if there’s many of you would like it to be taken off to ease your reading of our website please tell us so.

Unlike some political parties, we actually want to listen to our fellow citizens… 😉

  16. moo_t January 18, 2007 at 6:38 pm #

Maybe the never learn the KISS concept.

And nothing beat the stupidity of mouse over that show you snap of the page you currently view. Duh….

  17. eyeris January 18, 2007 at 6:59 pm #

Yeah, the Snap.com thingy is the most pointless thing ever. What’s the point of giving us a snapshot of a blog when the damn thing is so small you can’t even see the title of the blog?

  18. earl-ku January 18, 2007 at 7:44 pm #

ohh its there … my pc in the office is so fucked up …

  19. Dabido (Teflon) January 18, 2007 at 10:16 pm #

He does have a Jimi Hendrix clip on the site. lol
But, that probably doesn’t make up for it. lol

  20. iamyuanwu January 18, 2007 at 10:29 pm #

I turned it on just to check out what was that thing.

Then my page just refuse to load on my browser because it was taking forever to load the snap pages. When it finally loads, it annoyed even myself. Hah hah!

  21. Chen January 19, 2007 at 5:11 pm #

i’m not annoyed by the function actually, it’s just pretty pointless loh. damn sai hei.

  22. Chapree Da Grande January 19, 2007 at 9:48 pm #

It could be useful in some situation, for example, if the post featured NFSW links (like you are linking to sexy-time site). That said, it’s pretty annoying most of the time.

  23. Danny Foo January 20, 2007 at 1:08 am #

And like i posted on this same topic on some other blog, the reason people might say it’s cool is because it’s something new or kinda new.

They don’t care about how it distracts their readability until they’ve gone through maybe the 3rd snap preview.

Humans are fascinated by the smallest things and only get the effect later. 😛

  24. Albert Ng January 21, 2007 at 5:17 am #

I use Snap to preview my linkees (enabled only for me) to see if they’ve updated (since not everybody supports RSS). However, I wouldn’t force it on anybody.

  25. ShaolinTiger January 21, 2007 at 4:13 pm #

Dek Mat: Ah can tell you are Malaysian, immediately pass the buck rather than talk about solutions 😛

    eyeris: Exactamundo.

Dabido (Teflon): Oh it definitely doesn’t make up for it!

Chapree Da Grande: What if the NSFW content was below the small section that Snap previews? Still wouldn’t help IMHO.

Danny Foo: Technology for Technology sake…that’s why the dot com bubble burst 🙂

Albert Ng: Well that’s a fine enough use of technology, as long as you remember what the previous screenshot looked like and Snap updates in a timely enough fashion. Yours is about the only site I can think of that doesn’t have RSS but I’m interested in knowing about updates. Isn’t about time you coded an RSS feed, it’s not that hard 😉

  26. ShadowFox January 20, 2008 at 4:40 am #

I managed to completely destroy all attempts of snap.com to pervert my browsing experience.

I’ve blogged about how to disable this shit from firefox.

  27. ShaolinTiger January 28, 2008 at 2:27 am #

ShadowFox: Yeah Adblock Plus is extremely useful 🙂

  28. Randy July 19, 2008 at 5:23 pm #

Firefox is a piece of fucking shit and the maggots who created the whole sack of sick fucking garbage should be tortured over and over again. That’s what those cocksuckers deserve. If only torture and murder were legal for one day. Fuck I hate the queer cocksucking maggot faggot little bitches at Firefox. I fucking hate them. I really fucking hate the queer snivelly little bastards.

  29. booyuko July 31, 2008 at 11:13 am #

lol, I’ve came here by entering this in Google:”snapshots turn off that shit”:) I just couldn’t agree with you more:)

  30. ShaolinTiger July 31, 2008 at 3:36 pm #

booyuko: Yeah best way so far, block it in Firefox with Adblock Plus!
