Singapore – Chinatown – Part I

The first day I went to Peninsular Plaza near City Hall MRT stop to buy camera stuff, which no one would be interested in so I’ll post it at DigiSniper :)

Do you care if I got a Giotto rocket air blower?!

The second day I went with my Mom to Chinatown as it’s hustle and bustle, bright colours and lantern festival should be interesting, along with some good food you can find there.

Well here we are, alighting at Chinatown MRT station, diving into the heart of Chinatown in Singapore at Pagoda Street and following the tourism boards recommendation for a walk around Chinatown to take in the interesting sites.

First real outing with the new D200 :)

Singapore, a Fine City (You get fined for all kinds of things, like not flushing the toilet, eating chewing gum etc..)

Singapore

Lanterns lanterns everywhere, the lantern festival at Bukit Jalil heralded nicer lanterns of course.

Lantern

And yes, you can buy your very own SIA uniform for just $25SGD!

You can get a Trishaw ride around Chinatown.

The uncles play boardgames in the people’s square all day long.

Games

Some of them get bored and/or tired and simply fall asleep.

Sleep

Some look kinda bad ass.

After that we wondered into the rag and bone market where they well all kinds of weird nick-nacks.

My favourite portrait..

The old man testing a portable TV in the rag market, it turns out the screen was broken.

Poor thing.

Old Man

This character is Sheng or ‘Life’ (Thanks mooiness) it was very small, part of a large painting taken in almost 1:1 macro.

Sheng

There was a really interesting antique shop on the way out.

Mom was getting some schooling on how to take pics :)

There is some fantastic temples in China town both Chinese and Indian.

Honestly those are really inpressive pictures. Any amount of money you spent on graphic software and your camera was definatly worth it.

    Keep it up.

Lowfu… you must go Geylang! Stay a night over at Hotel 81. There’s plenty of Hotel 81 there but there’s only ONE you should stay in.

Go for dinner just nearby the hotel. The chinese food there is pretty good. Next morning… go for dimsum too. Surprisingly good there!

Just starting to take pics so still a little bit unsure of taking photos of people on the streets. Who knows, may be big mobster guy in hiding & if you take his pic, he may have to kill you??!! *lol*

I think I may have watched wayyyyy too much Hongkie movies when growing up… ;p
