PPS is alive and strong, almost has a life of its own now. I find it very interesting as a social experiment actually.

As you notice, my presence there is hardly ever felt any more, for good reason: i'm hardly ever there (though i browse it once a day or so).

But its hits and page views are higher now than ever before, on growth rate of 5% per month. Nothing spectacular, to be sure, but it grows. More members sign up, more pings incoming, etc.

No matter what happens to PPS now and in the future (PPS 2.0 will come someday, i suppose), i don't think anyone can begrudge its success. Its done what it was meant to do, and done it quite well. I don't think anyone can ask anything more of an app that lives on the Internet, especially one that has lived a good 3 years (and still kicking!).

well... blogging is itself a journal at times

does PPS state explicitly on personal thoughts/blogs (besides the obvious spam/ad-pseudo blogs)?

PPS has gained popularity. and such is the effects of being more well-known imho.

still PPS has at times its (rare) gems. personally browse it once a while to see what might be interesting. The title of a post is often a dead giveaway

*shrugs*

ps. glhf w/ the photography

I have to wonder though, what exactly is the quality of a good blog. Aren't most blogs about "journals about irrelevant stuff, no real content, just whinging, whining, emo.." ;) So what is a good blog?

I do agree, however, that well written ones are few and far in between. I don't know, I'm just particular about not blogging in manglish. (Heh)

There are far too many personal blogs on PPS (but I think there will always be this case) but not many blogs that are topical blogs like on fitness (www.dailymuscle.com), finance (Argh, forgot his URL), spiritual (well, mine is sorta pseudo-religion-personal).

Say, is anyone interested in creating a Carnival? A Carnival is where bloggers send in their links based on a certain topic/theme. The set of links will then be hosted on a particular blog.

For example, I participate in the Christian Carnival where they blog about Christian stuff. Ocassionally, I try to join other blogs like Carnival of Dogs (pet lovers!) or Carnival of Finance.

Carnivals are a good way to narrow down your reading selection, and also to sieve out all those 'lazy' blogs.

I notice that there aren't any Malaysian Carnivals out there. Maybe we should create one?? :)

I've always wanted to create one, but I have no idea how to publicise it ... not to mention I'm SUPER busy to manage it.

Oh well, just a suggestion.

Being in PPS doesn't make us moderators and the content's quality doesn't need justification to be there. That's what I like about PPS, it doesn't judge but of course if there's extreme violation in spamming, we bloggers would have intervene someway or somehow within our boundaries. It's democracy in action with a little dose of commercialism.

[...] I am going to rant nevertheless. As you know, my kid is only 14 yrs old and I must say he writes pretty good. Whatever you see on his blog is written by him with bits taken from forums he joined. I drilled into him that if he is seriously going to keep a blog, he gotta follow my rules. I.e. no blind copy and paste except for important and useful parts, no hotlinking and no f-word. The photos are taken by him and my #3. [...]

alot of people have this habit of churning news into blogposts which really vexes me. i don't think the quality of posts should matter on blogtal like PPS; it is, in essence, an indicator of malaysian writing in general (though that's biased, seeing as a good majority of malaysians don't blog).

PPS is a reflection of malaysians blogs in general. imho, i think we're just average, save for a good few blogs here and there. some of the best malaysian blogs don't even ping PPS. the level isn't sliding, it's just that there are more blah bloggers obssessed with getting hits just ping PPS. the end.

[...] Yes the current state of a certain part the Malaysian blogsphere is likened to a pile of overused toothpaste that has been squeezed out of the tube and reused because people are too lazy to buy a new one. It's not exactly clean, it's not exactly something that's worthwhile. It just is what it is. Something that was once fresh and new but has turned into something that deserves to be tossed away. [...]

My new blog's up and running. Have a good read now. :)

Btw, not all emo blogs suck. I think it depends on the presentation...the writer. As usual.

I feel your angst about lousy blogs on the run. Whenever I come across one of them, I wonder why some people force themselves through the pain of writing/typing at all, just to get their content (or lack thereof) bitched about in return.

I made a faux paux. Didn't realize the unwritten 7-mins-per-post rule in PPS. Hope they don't delete all my pings because of that flooding mistake. :/

Cheers.
