My Poor old Logitech MX700 Has Gone Rusty!

Man my poor old trust Logitech MX700 is finally starting to give up the ghost, I've had this mouse for AGES, it replaced my first optical mouse the MS Intellimouse (Yeah I think MS Software sucks, but they make REALLY nice peripherals).

MS Intellimouse

After that gave up and bit the bullet, I treated myself to a mad wireless optical mouse, the Logitech MX700, the dream of geeks and gamers alike.

At that time it was pretty rare.

At that time I was indeed l33t!

But now, the old fella is looking a bit worn and tired.

The looks don't bother me..the problem really is that the pads used to connect to the base station and charge...HAVE GONE RUSTY!

It's very hard to get it to charge now..then I think because of this the old batteries gave up, and wouldn't hold the charge any more. So I bought some new ones, and it still won't charge, I have to charge them in a standalone charger..

Bah! Standby batteries always at hand just in case my MOUSE goes flat..not good!

I've tried smoothing out the rusty points with a nail file, it didn't work, next I'm gonna try and rubthem with pen eraser (If I can find one).

I was thinking of buying the new fancy MX1000 laser mouse, but it's pretty freaking expensive..

My poor old mouse, is indeed looking sad.

Woah your right click part is almost worn out!

    Must be DotA...

If you're thinking of getting a new mouse, NEVER EVAR get Acrox. They suck.

Logitech G7 is good. It's cheap, around RM350 in Plaza Low Yat.

You can check price lists of hardware components here.

    Trust me, G1, G5 and G7 are r0x0r.

I like the plain, vanilla Logitech USB optical scroll mouse (can't remember model number - it costs about RM70 or less).

It's light, simple, durable and hurts less when you slam it against a wall during a Call of Duty 2 deathmatch...

BTW, the Apple Mighty Mouse is completely rubbish for playing games, so don't get that if you play lots of games on your Mac.

Actually, if games are your priority, don't get a Mac at all... ^_^

After you buy a new one, how will you honour this noble mx700 for its years of service? A glass case? Or a spot of honour by your pillow (next to Mr Muff the bunny)?

Nah, I considered the MX1000 to but its old hat now man, you want the tasty MX610. It has a tilting scroll wheel :)

Plus its auto power saving, with email and IM notification lights on it, and volume controls.

    £44.99 though.

Optical mice are great. Don't have to clean those rollers which track the rubber ball when they've collected dust. What results is one unresponsive mouse.

    Hmm.........

I am not sure if you're up for it but since the mouse is going, perhaps you might want to open it up, to replace the metal contact pads. Or just get someone to retro-fit a new connection system between the mouse and the docking/charger unit.

eddyhan: Yah cheers, that sounds quite cool, will have a look for the G7.

Chris: Not a fan of Mac, too trendy for me ;) Was considering getting a wired mouse again. Cheaper.

    Jamie: Probably display cabinet :)

Jon: Woah, that's a crazy looking mouse.

NSD: Nah definately right handed, just probably right click more often as I tend to use the keyboard when it's focused already, so I don't use left click much. And yah, right click is move in DoTA, so it's worn a lot from that ;)

ChowFC: Too much hassle man! Will just get a new one or something.

Try using fine grade sandpaper on the contact points. This worked for my MX700 (same rusting problem). Cheers ;-)
